Gaming is great for practicing patience, building communication skills, and helping you to create memories together.
Here at FandomSpot we’ve been conducting studies into how modern media affects our lives, as well as how gaming can benefit our everyday lives.
We surveyed 2,000 of our community members to find out just which games are best for couples on date night. To mark Valentine’s Day, we asked them which games would be their top picks for a date and why.
The top 10 date night games were voted as:
1. Raft
We were surprised to see Raft take the top spot as there is no local co-op mode, but fans of the game reported an increased feeling of closeness and connection after overcoming danger in game, such as killing a shark.
2. Minecraft
Similar to Raft, gamers reported feeling a heightened sense of closeness with their partners when finding safety after a run-in with in-game monsters. However, the majority of people who voted for Minecraft said that the reason they enjoyed playing the game with loved ones was the ability to create gifts and even entire worlds for them.
3. Overcooked
Daters described Overcooked’s time constraints as its best feature for date night gaming due to the need for people to communicate quickly and effectively.
Overcooked players also cited problem solving, the game’s ‘funny fails’, and that it’s both challenging and accessible to new gamers.
4. The Sims
Lovers of the OG simulation game stated they loved being able to put versions of themselves in sexy or amorous situations that they might not usually have the opportunity to have in real life.
Fans of the game also enjoyed being able to build ‘dream homes’ with their partners.
5. Stardew Valley
Teamwork makes the dream work.
Magical farming simulation Stardew Valley is thought to be popular amongst couples because of the need for teamwork and for the ability to design and curate a space together.
6. Animal Crossing: New Horizons
Animal Crossing: New Horizons was another game voted into the top ten based on its ability to design and create with a loved one.
7. Mario Kart
A little bit of friendly competition never hurt anyone! Couples reported the light teasing and rivalry from a light-hearted game made them thrive to be better partners.
8. Dream Daddy: A Dad Dating Simulator
Particularly favored by LGBTQIA+ couples, Dream Daddy fans enjoy decision making around both dating and parenting, and reported the game reminding them of their early dating days as a couple.
9. Fuser
Virtual DJ game Fuser left couples feeling more connected after enjoying music together, and reminiscing songs that reminded them of significant events.
10. Escape Simulator
Despite the co-op for Escape Simulator being online only, puzzlers report all of the thrills, teamwork and emotional connections that are expected from an offline escape room even while apart.
