Emotions tend to run quite high in anime, both good and bad.
When someone is sad, they could literally create waterfalls with their eyes.
When someone is angry, they might go Super Saiyan.
And when you truly love someone, you never ever let them go – even if they were only gone for a few seconds.
That’s right, today we’re ranking some of the clingiest characters that anime has to offer.
15. Akatsuki
Anime: Log Horizon
I’m going to start off with the relatively tame ones before we move into crazy territory.
There’s no doubt in my mind that Akatsuki spends every waking moment either next to Shiroe, or thinking about him, as we constantly see her perched near his room while everyone else is out doing something interesting.
However, it comes from a good place and she never crosses into restraining order territory.
She gets the occasional jealousy outbreak. But she is ironically non-confrontational for a ninja.
Conclusion: very cute, but really needs to learn how to at least broaden her range when it comes to her distance from Shiroe on a daily basis.
14. Shinra Kishitani
Anime: Durarara!!
Shinra and Celty are an absolute power-couple and I love them.
But that doesn’t change the fact that Shinra has some pretty unhealthy habits.
It’s completely normal for you to want to spend time with your loved one. But the second you basically start plotting against them just so that they wouldn’t potentially leave, that’s very clingy and creepy.
They do patch it all out in the end.
But heaven forbid someone actually makes a move on Celty, Shinra would go from underground doctor to assassin really quickly.
13. Togame
Anime: Katanagatari
Even though Togame said a lot of things in the last episode that would distance her from Shichika, she seems pretty enamored.
Shichika can almost never go somewhere without her, unless he is ready to taste the power of her adorable fist. And the one time she allowed him to venture out by himself, she popped a blood vessel because he talked to another woman.
She does it in a very adorable voice, so it’s easy to overlook – but my girl had some major separation issues.
12. Raphtalia
Anime: The Rising of the Shield Hero
This is another example where the character is so cute that we all just conveniently overlook how clingy she can be.
In fact, she even states herself that she wants to be clingy in episode seven. So list entry confirmed.
However, the part that I find a bit weird is that she really gets jealous of Filo.
You know Filo, the literal child that transforms into a fluffy chicken?
I mean, Raphtalia is no better if you think about it. But if your only requirement for jealousy is that they’re of the opposite gender, you’re getting the clingy badge from me.
11. Hestia
Anime: Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?
I’m not even going to pretend like I mind this one at all.
Considering that Hestia is literally a goddess, one would expect an army of white nights at her hand… but nope, she’s out here screaming at anyone who talks to Bell.
And man does that happen a lot.
The yelling is also immediately followed by very aggressive hugs, to assert dominance over the potential competition.
But it does make sense though, given how Bell is her only “child”.
God that sounds weird when you read it out.
Whatever, Hestia is Bestia and her anger is adorable.
10. Shion
Anime: That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime
Shion just has the personality of a puppy.
She follows her master, Rimuru, absolutely everywhere. She constantly wants their attention and is prepared to bite whoever tries to harm them.
At times her separation issues are so bad that she literally disobeys Rimuru just so that she can stay with Rimuru!
She’s lucky that army rules don’t apply in her world.
And if Shion suspects that Rimuru is going around looking at other women, their taste buds are going to cry for a week straight after being force fed some of Shion’s cooking.
9. Naruto Uzumaki
Anime: Naruto
We have meme’d on it for years, and I will keep meme’ing on it until the day I die:
Naruto is among the clingiest dudes in this known universe.
He ran after Sasuke for so long and with so much conviction that one really has to question whether their first kiss was truly an accident.
I was originally going to throw Sakura on here, as she is more of the jealous type.
But I honestly feel like she never even came close when it came to the sport of Sasuke Simping.
She just did a short sprint while Naruto is out here making laps.
8. Mikasa Ackerman
Anime: Attack on Titan
Mikasa is a special case, as her jealousy hardly ever boils to the surface, as Eren had 0 game for three seasons.
But when it shows up, boy is it terrifying.
Eren just chatted to Historia once and Mikasa gave her a death stare so powerful that I felt afraid to look at Eren for a few minutes.
And when it comes to clinginess, it’s canonically in her blood.
She never leaves Eren’s side, and will rush into the jaws of Hell if that’s where Eren happens to be.
But god knows what season four is going to do with that dynamic…
7. Subaru Natsuki
Anime: Re: Zero
I can bet big money that if presented the chance, Subaru would be completely content with swapping places with Pack and living inside of a crystal on Emilia’s necklace.
I mean, it is admirable that he would suffer so much just to help out the girl he loves.
But when that also means challenging knights to a fight because they dared to speak negatively about her, it goes a bit far.
Although he’s more mentally stable later on in the season, my dude is still very clingy.
Like Tumblr “couple goals” clingy.
He also rejected Rem so I really don’t know where his head is at.
6. Albedo
Anime: Overlord
Now that we’re all warmed up, we can get into the real crazies!
Albedo was literally programmed to love Momonga. And let’s just say it’s working better than anyone could have expected, or could have wanted for that matter.
If you so much as sneeze in Momonga’s general direction, Albedo will probably try to murder you.
And if Momonga gives her any compliment whatsoever, the show becomes a lot less PG when it comes to facial expressions and voice acting.
I have no doubt that if Momonga ever dies, she will climb into the coffin with him.
At least he would always look the same.
5. Shouko Kirishima
Anime: Baka and Test: Summon the Beasts
Sure, it always sucks when you and a childhood friend drift apart over the years and can’t find the time to hang out anymore.
However, I don’t think handcuffing them is the way to go in terms of a long-term solution.
Especially if you also make them sit next to you for fourteen hours and watch the same movie twice.
And we can’t forget the taser, as you wouldn’t want that pesky friend leaving the movie before it’s done!
Hell, throw in a few random tases just so that they nap on your shoulder.
In the universe of Black Clover there are only three certainties:
Yami’s bowel movements, Asta’s training routine, and Gauche’s sister obsession.
And he truly does warrant the word “obsession” as he literally spends his days just looking at her picture or making sculptures of her.
And the mere sight of his sister makes him have a nosebleed 10/10 times.
So, as you can imagine, all he ever talks about is how his sister is the best and how he wants to see her. God bless that nun for putting in a restraining order on this guy.
3. Anna Nishikinomiya
Anime: SHIMONETA: A Boring World Where the Concept of Dirty Jokes Doesn’t Exist
I can’t even begin to explain what Anna is all about without losing any chance of keeping it clean.
She, um, is very passionate and will go to extreme lengths, some might even say unreasonable lengths, in order to, um… hold hands with the man she loves.
And no doors, social cues, literal laws, or morals are going to stand in her way!
2. Makoto Teruhashi
Anime: The Disastrous Life of Saiki K.
This guy is basically Gauche, but somehow even worse.
He also worships his sister and kisses the very ground that she walks, plus he just wants to straight up marry her.
Can I get a “sweet home Alabama”?
And oh boy is he jealous.
He will gladly sacrifice everything he has in his life if it means “protecting” his sister from all these pesky male friends.
Little does he know that he’s facing the most powerful man on the planet.
So yeah, almost at yandere level but not quite there yet as his hands are clean.
Speaking of yandere…
1. Yuno Gasai
Anime: Mirai Nikki
You just can’t out-cling or out-jealous a yandere, that’s the way it is.
Yuno will scoop out your eyes with a rusty spoon if you even look at Yuki.
And she probably keeps a closer eye on him than Amazon. That should tell you something, considering the whole show is about phones.
She has repeatedly shown the capability and willingness to murder if anyone gets between her and Yuki. And the scene of her peeking out of Yuki’s mailbox unironically haunts me to this very day.
So she’s definitely the clingiest and the most jealous.
