With the second season of Demon Slayer absolutely crushing it in terms of quality, it’s time to look at the aspect that made Demon Slayer so successful in the first place.
You might think that I’m referring to its animation, sound design, or revolutionary visual approach, but I’m actually talking about the waifus.
Honestly this show is chock full of some of the best waifus and husbandos that anime has ever seen – and for this ranking it’s time to give waifus some love.
Tamayo literally has the patience and the heart of a saint.
Yushirou is basically a demonic chihuahua in terms of character, and it’s very easy to see why he got so attached.
Tamayo is always calm and collected with only one goal on her mind: helping people.
Even after two hundred years she still believes in a cure that can turn demons back to normal. And she’s definitely not giving up.
She’s also just adorable whenever she interacts with Nezuko, as even though she has a calm demeanor, you can tell that she is a softie.
4. Kanao Tsuyuri
Even though Kanao initially seemed like a perfect candidate to be a serial killer or something, man does she grow on you.
First you get to see her tragic past and get a punch straight to the gut with a hint of understanding.
And then you see her slowly open up throughout the show, and your heart melts ever so slightly.
She’s always so calm, and her expression is so peaceful, and yet she’s so full of pain that you’re hardly ever left unaffected when she does come on screen.
3. Mitsuri Kanroji
OK, she is literally the Love Hashira, so it’s in her design to be the most lovable cupcake of a person ever.
Mitsuri’s blush game is on par with the best in the business. And since she gets embarrassed about basically everything, your eyes get to be blessed frequently.
She looks adorable all the time – and every single one of her thoughts is somehow so pure that is hurts.
I swear to god if something happens to this character I will lose hope in anime humanity.
Bonus points here for having one of the most adorable-sounding voice actors as well, if you’re watching it subbed.
2. Shinobu Kochou
Shinobu is basically just Kanao on steroids, as she both calms and terrifies me all of the time.
On the one hand, the voice actress portraying her (in the sub) sounds angelic. And her demeanor is always so composed that you feel like everything is always going to be okay as long as she’s there.
On the other hand though, she is incredibly dangerous and will still be nice with you even when she plans on killing you within the minute. So you can never be sure.
Still, I say it’s worth the risk.
Because at least if you do die, you get quite the angelic farewell.
1. Nezuko Kamado
This is barely a surprise to absolutely anyone who has seen more than one minute of the show, I’m sure.
Nezuko is just too adorable.
I genuinely feel like scientists were given the task to design the most likable and lovable anime character in existence, and they came up with Nezuko.
When tensions aren’t high, seeing her run around or doze off helps remind your brain what dopamine is.
And when the chips are down and swords are drawn, she’s arguably the most interesting part of any fight.
She can do no wrong – and she is the most lovable character that any anime fan could ever ask for.
