15 Best Mages in Epic Seven: The Ultimate Ranking

Mages are some of the most sought-after units in E7.

Their ability to carry some of the most powerful Artifacts (such as Abyssal Crown and Tagahel’s Ancient Book) makes them a staple of most teams.

But which ones stand out the most?

Let’s take a look at some of the best Mage Heroes across all forms of PVE and PVP content.

15. Guider Aither (Honorable Mention)

Rarity: 4*
Element: Light

Guider Aither sees no play in PVE.

Guider Aither sees no play in PVP.

Guider Aither’s design is all but forgettable, and many would be disappointed to summon this hero after witnessing a purple spark.

However, we’re here to tell you that Guider Aither should not receive a buff, and should remain at the bottom of every Epic Seven tier list.

This is because Guider Aither is the easiest way to acquire Silver Transmit Stones in the entire game!

Usually, transmitting 3* and 4* heroes will net you 1 and 10 Transmit Stones respectively. However if you Memory Imprint Guider Aither with his 3* counterpart until SSS rank, he’ll gain the equivalent value of seven 4-Star heroes!

This means, for one Guider Aither at SSS rank, you can acquire a whopping 70 Silver Transmit Stones.

So the next time you summon a Guider Aither, don’t be so quick to curse your bad luck.

14. Dizzy

Rarity: 5*
Element: Ice

For how much of a terror she used to be in PVP, Dizzy is hardly ever seen nowadays.

With almost every team running either some kind of immunity or cleanse, Dizzy’s multiple debuffs are no longer the threat they once were.

This doesn’t mean Dizzy is obsolete though, as she’s still a godsend for newer players looking to take on the Abyss.

Guilty Gear Strive has returned to the game. And if you have a surplus of bookmarks (and aren’t planning to SSS Jack-O) try and pick up Dizzy if you can.

13. Champion Zerato

Rarity: 4*
Element: Dark

Champion Zerato is made to counter debuff heavy enemy teams.

C.Zerato can counterattack when debuffed and transfer his debuffs to the enemy, while also dishing out heavy damage and life-stealing.

His skill one can hit multiple targets (transferring debuffs to multiple enemies) and his skill three is a nice AOE defense break.

All in all, C.Zerato will remain useful for as long as debuffs exist.

12. Mercedes

Rarity: 4*
Element: Fire

In her base form, Mercedes is not much to write home about.

She’s the character we all receive for free at the start of our journey, and amounts to little more than a great waifu to Ras.

However, after her alternate form made its debut, Mercedes found a niche as a budget damage-dealer!

“Arbiter Vildred-Lite” is able to revive after suffering fatal damage, but without the combat readiness push that Arby has.

Mercedes earns this spot for being a free 4* unit that has somewhat of a place in PVP (which is saying something considering some 4* Moonlight Heroes don’t see any play in RTA).

Also, that Fluffy Lady Arky skin is incredible.

11. Challenger Dominiel

Rarity: 4*
Element: Dark

With more heroes being released that trigger counterattacks when opponents use non-attacking skills, C.Dom’s usage has fallen by the wayside.

Despite dethroning Angelica for the place as the Epic Seven icon, C.Dom is far from the best hero (or even the best Mage).

However, should your opponent fail to draft Politis or Celine, C.Dom can still work her in a cleave comp.

10. Fairytale Tenebria

Rarity: 5*
Element: Ice

Y’know, Fairytale Tenebria used to be the go-to first pick for RTA.

Her ability to inflict a party-wide provoke on the enemy before stripping buffs and inflicting a myriad of debuffs with her passive was truly threatening.

While she has since fallen out of favor, her full damage build can still catch some people off guard if they’re not prepared.

9. Researcher Carrot

Rarity: 3*
Element: Fire

Who would have thought a three-star hero could reach such heights in this list?

Carrot’s mix of low cooldowns, huge burns, and AOE strips make her a terror of any RTA match.

Not only that, but her Flame Barrier prevents her from being taken out too quickly.

8. Milim

Rarity: 5*
Element: Fire

Milim is a great extinction unit, defense penetrator, and bruiser mage.

Depending on your preferences, Milim could be built as a glass cannon nuker that’s meant to extinct Arbiter Vildred before unleashing her devastating Dragon Buster.

Or alternatively, Milim can be placed on a Counter-set and continuously stack her skill one.

7. Top Model Luluca

Rarity: 5*
Element: Dark

Tomoca is in Limbo as of this writing.

On paper, Tomoca’s kit is ridiculously powerful.

An attack buff, 15% party-wide CR push, and a massive shield with Dignus Orb all on her skill 2? Great!

A powerful skill three that inflicts extinction, reduces skill cooldown when killing a unit, and drops her into stealth? Sign us up!

A skill one that ignores damaging sharing and can be soul burnt to take out pesky units like Spirit Eye Celine and Tempest Surin? This hero must be top-tier!

Unfortunately, Tomoca’s paper-thin defenses (before getting off that first Dignus Orb proc) leave her a sitting duck.

And in a world of Peira’s, Ran’s, and Assassin Cidd’s, Tomoca’s base speed can’t compete to give her the turn one she desperately needs to be viable.

She’s a great unit – just no longer the dominant threat she once was.

6. Sage Baal and Sezan

Rarity: 5*
Element: Light

The man who started it all.

Sage Baal will go down in history alongside his wife (Silver Blade Aramintha) as the duo who toppled the first domino of future balance patches.

Before his nerf, Sage Baal was the terror of PVP. And very little could stand in his way.

After his nerf, he fell into obscurity to become (arguably) the worst ML 5-star hero in the game.

This prompted many people to exchange him for ML Ken or another ML 5-star hero.

However, those who held on to their Sage Baal’s were greatly rewarded for their loyalty!

After his buff, Sage Baal saw a resurgence in play.

He was no longer the top-tier hero that he once was – but his ability to sleep/stun-lock an entire team is just as powerful today as it once was.

5. Solitaria of the Snow

Rarity: 5*
Element: Dark

After Solitaria received her buff, she became a tricky nuisance to take down.

She can put a damper on a team with no cleanser, from stunning your entire team to dipping in and out of stealth.

I think she’s an example of buffing done right.

She is by no means overpowered, but she’s no longer the eternal benchwarmer she once was.

4. Archdemon’s Shadow

Rarity: 5*
Element: Light

People went nuts when Archdemon’s Shadow was announced.

It was the first confirmation we received that storyline bosses (like Straze) would eventually become playable heroes.

Archdemon’s Shadow didn’t make waves when she first was released.

But over time, people have warmed to her burns.

Her ability to seal passive skills becomes more viable with each new unit released.

3. Specter Tenebria

Rarity: 5*
Element: Dark

Specter Tenebria places so highly in this ranking not solely because of her performance in RTA, but in Epic Seven.

You see, Specter Tenebria is widely used in several Abyss stages (where she becomes somewhat mandatory) and in Hunts like Azimanak, where her multi-targeted skill one is a godsend.

That isn’t to say Specter Tenebria is purely PVE-focused, though.

Because she’s still a dominant pick in RTA as well.

2. Politis

Rarity: 5*
Element: Fire

Politis is kinda like Amazon.com.

During her release, nobody believed in her capabilities – she was seen as just another counter to Auxiliary Lots cleave.

But as time has gone on, Politis stonks have continued to rise with each new hero.

Any new hero with some kind of non-attacking skill pushes Politis’ value to the moon – and it has become almost a necessity to have a Politis built for RTA.

1. Angel of Light Angelica

Rarity: 4*
Element: Light

It’s infrequent that a four-star hero would ever top the list of any class-based ranking.

But this just goes to show how dominant AOLA has been since her release.

AOLA’s kit is incredibly stacked, and it would be fair to call her overpowered even if she were a five-star hero.

Within her three abilities she can:

• Cleanse debuffs
• AOE silence
• Reduce combat readiness
• And make you a smoothie

AOLA was one of the very few units that caused an outcry from fans who could not pull her during her Mystic rotation, for fear of summoning Specimen Sez by mistake.

But if you’ve managed to add her into your roster?

Well hats off to you.
