How To Get Stamina Springs in FFX (Locations + Uses)

The most efficient way to farm Stamina Springs is by bribing Ogre fiends. For a bribe of 235,000 gil you get x50 Springs, which is a fairly good deal. Ogres can be found in the northern part of the Calm Lands.

But if you don’t want to spend the money, you can take the slower (but free) route of stealing from Kottos at the Monster Arena, who has up to x4 Stamina Springs as its common steal drop (~87%).

Kottos will be unlocked at the Monster Arena after you capture one of every fiend on the Mi’hen Highroad. Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Mi’ihen Fang
  • Ipiria
  • Floating Eye
  • White Element
  • Raldo
  • Vouivre
  • Bomb
  • Dual Horn

Alternatively, you can get a one-time gift of x99 Stamina Springs by unlocking Ornitholestes at the Monster Arena.

Ornitholestes will be unlocked after you capture three copies of each reptile-type fiend. There are seven total fiends you’ll need, each in a different location of Spira – but remember you’ll need x3 copies of each one (for a total of 21 captures in all):

  • Dinonix (Kilika Woods)
  • Iguion (Macalania Woods)
  • Ipiria (Mi’ihen Highroad)
  • Melusine (Thunder Plains)
  • Raptor (Mushroom Rock Road and Djose Highroad)
  • Yowie (Cavern of Stolen Fayth)
  • Zaurus (Omega Ruins)

What Are Stamina Springs Used For?

When used in battle with the “Use” command, a Stamina Spring absorbs an enemies’ HP much like the Drain spell.

These springs can also be used to customize Strength +5% onto a weapon and Defense +5% onto a piece of armor. Also your Aeons can use Stamina Springs to learn Power Break and Drain.

  • Strength +5% requires x2 Stamina Springs to customize
  • Defense +5% requires x2 Stamina Springs to customize
  • Power Break (Aeon) requires x8 Stamina Springs
  • Drain (Aeon) requires x60 Stamina Springs

Additionally, Stamina Springs can be used in Rikku’s mixes for some pretty cool results:

Chaos Grenade (Supreme Gem + Stamina Spring): Deals exceptionally large damage to all enemies as well as inflicting Full Break, Slow, Poison, Darkness, Silence, and Sleep.

Super Mighty G (Chocobo Feather + Stamina Spring): Casts Haste, Protect, Shell, and Regen onto the whole party.

Hyper Vitality (Stamina Spring + Stamina Tonic): Doubles the maximum HP of the party.

Are These Worth Farming?

No, not really.

You’ll get a few here and there from chests as you play through the game. And that should be enough until you can unlock Ornitholestes and get ninety-nine of them all at once.

A full stack is more than you’ll probably ever need.

Stamina Springs are just one of those items that seem pretty cool on paper, but hardly ever get used in practice.
