Technically, the fastest way to farm Stamina Tonics is by bribing Gemini fiends (either Gemini A or B, doesn’t matter). For 900,000 gil you get x10 Tonics. Yes this is expensive, but if you have the gil, bribing is the most reliable way to farm this item quickly.
But for a cheaper option, both Catoblepas and Machea fiends have Stamina Tonics as their rare steal item.
So if you customize a weapon with Master Thief, you can steal them as much as you like. This method requires obtaining Master Thief – but it’s still the cheapest and most reliable farming method for getting lots of Stamina Tonics.
Catoblepas is unlocked at the Monster Arena after capturing one of every fiend on Mt. Gagazet. There are eleven in total:
Bandersnatch
Grat
Bashura
Grenade
Splasher
Achelous
Maelspike
Ahriman
Grendel
Mandragora
Behemoth
Dark Flan
Or if you want to track down the Machea fiends, they reside within the Omega Ruins.
You can also get a one-time reward of x99 Stamina Tonics (probably more than you’ll ever need) by unlocking Stratoavis at the Monster Arena.
Stratoavis is unlocked after capturing one copy of each fiend that you find on the paths around Besaid Village.
Luckily there’s only three to catch:
Dingo
Condor
Water Flan
What Are Stamina Tonics Used For?
Use ‘em with the “Use” command and you can double the total HP of your entire party for a battle.
That’s pretty cool.
But the better use for them is probably going to be using them to customize HP +30% onto a piece of armor, which requires only x1 Stamina Tonic per customization.
And Rikku can use these items as mix ingredients, too. Such as…
Hyper Vitality (Musk + Stamina Tonic): Casts cheer on the party and double their max HP.
Eccentric (Amulet + Stamina Tonic): Doubles overdrive gain for the whole party.
Trio of 9999 (Dark Matter + Stamina Tonic): All allies deal 9999 with their attacks and abilities for the duration of battle.
Are Stamina Tonics Worth Farming?
Nah.
You can get ninety-nine from unlocking Stratoavis. And odds are good that’s all you’ll ever need.
HP +30% is fine, but nowhere near vital as an armor ability.
Doubling your HP is also nice, but again, it’s nowhere near a requirement for any battle in the game.
Even Rikku’s mixes can be created elsewhere by using more common items.
So when it comes to Stamina Tonics, just take what you get from Stratoavis and that’s probably going to be enough.
