FFXIV: Is Augmented Ironworks Gear Worth Getting?

The Augmented Ironworks gearsets are arguably the best level 50 pieces of equipment in the game, so they’re definitely worth picking up. With the Augmented Ironworks set equipped, you can tackle level 50 content such as the Crystal Tower raids and the Coils of Bahamut with relative ease.

Picking up these pieces of gear as soon as you hit 50 will also benefit your journey through the game’s Main Scenario Quest. Since they have an Item Level of 130, Augmented Ironworks equipment will serve you well until deep into the Heavensward expansion.

Augmented Ironworks gear can be purchased with a currency called “Allagan Tomestones of Poetics”, or “Poetics” for short. A full set will cost you 3735 Poetics.

Where To Get the Augmented Ironworks Sets

Each starting city in FFXIV plus Mor Dhona has an NPC that will sell you the Augmented Ironworks sets in exchange for Poetics.

Some of these locations may be a bit confusing to navigate, which is ironic since they’re meant to be the starting cities.

If you do find yourself having a bit of trouble locating these NPC’s, just remember that they’re usually right next to the city’s main Aetheryte.

How To Farm Poetics

There are plenty of ways to farm poetics in FFXIV. However, before you begin earning this currency, you’ll first need to hit level 50 on at least one battle class and complete the Main Scenario Quest “The Ultimate Weapon”.

Once these requirements are met, you can start farming your Allagan Tomestones of Poetics.

Here are some of the more popular ways to obtain them:

Method #1: Dungeon Grinding

Certain dungeons in the game will reward you with Poetics after being cleared. These dungeons are usually the old level-cap dungeons from previous expansions.

In other words, as of patch 6.2, these would be the Level 50, 60, 70, and 80 dungeons.

Method #2: Wondrous Tails

Wondrous Tails is a feature that gives you a chance to complete weekly goals in order to obtain prizes.

Objectives usually involve completing certain instances like specific dungeons, raids, or PVP modes.

Wondrous Tails is unlocked after completing the level 60 quest “Keeping Up with the Aliapohs” from the Unctuous Adventurer in Idyllshire (X:7.0, Y:5.9). After completing this quest, you can start on your weekly objectives by obtaining a Wondrous Tails Journal from Khloe Aliapoh at Idyllshire (X:5.7, Y:6.1).

You can obtain a new journal every Tuesday at 1AM PDT.

Method #3: Duty Roulette

This is a system that allows you to queue up for any random instance you have unlocked. Completing these roulettes will reward you with different currencies.
