These efts are large amphibious lizard-like creatures that can be found living near bodies of water and in dark underground caverns.
There are quite a few different types of these creatures found in the game, the most common of which are the mudpuppies. These can be found in:
- The Fogfens of Mor Dhona (X:13.0, Y:10.0)
- Boulder Downs in the Coerthas Central Highlands (X:10.5, Y:29.3)
The level of efts that drop their tails when defeated range from 39 to 48, but there’s a good chance that the first ones you encounter in the wild would be the mudpuppies in Mor Dhona at level 44. They’re found southwest of the Revenant’s Toll aetheryte, just outside of Castrum Centri.
Retainers can also farm eft tails for you, if you send them out on ventures as Disciples of War or Magic.
So let’s look into all the different enemies you can farm for this ingredient.
The Different Types of Efts
There are more types of efts other than just mudpuppies.
Below is a full list of all the enemies that drop Eft Tails, along with where they can be found:
- Axolotl, Level 48 – found in the Sapsa Spawning Grounds in Western La Noscea (X:14.0, Y:15.5)
- Emerald Salamander, Level 45 – found in the Lower Paths of the South Shroud (X:20.0, Y:28.0) during the Level 45 Warrior Job Quest, “Looking the Part”
- Mudpuppy, Level 41 – spawns during FATE “The Tangle” in Mor Dhona (X:14.0, Y:13.0)
- Mudpuppy, Level 44 – found in the Fogfens of Mor Dhona (X:13.0, Y:10.0)
- Mudpuppy, Level 47 – found in Boulder Downs in the Coerthas Central Highlands (X:10.5, Y:29.3)
- Spotted Mudpuppy, Level 39 – found in the Daniffen Pass, Coerthas Central Highlands (X:14.0, Y:22.0) during the Level 39 Main Scenario Quest “Ye of Little Faith”
Farming with Retainers
When set as a Disciple of War or Magic, retainers can be sent out on Hunting Exploration ventures to farm specific items for you.
The option to collect eft tails becomes available when your retainer reaches level 47.
It takes an hour to complete hunting exploration ventures, but this can be reduced down to 40 minutes by leveling your retainer past level 47.
And you NPC companions will bring back 5 to 15 eft tails per run, depending on their average item level.
Try to aim for an average item level of at least 67 on your retainer to guarantee that they bring back 15 tails every venture.
A good way to speed up your eft tail farming is to assign hunting ventures to your retainer(s) while you go out and farm some yourself.
