The Minute Mindflayer Minion is obtained primarily through Retainer Ventures. Added way back in Patch 2.2 of A Realm Reborn, this minion is a much more adorable version of the iconic Piscodaemon.

To get this for yourself, there are four different ventures in FFXIV that have a shot at rewarding you with the Minion. They are:

  • Field Exploration XIII – Level 50 Disciple of War or Magic, requires a Minimum iLvl of 60.
  • Highland Exploration XIII – Level 50 Miner, requires a minimum Gathering Rating of 285.
  • Woodland Exploration XIII – Level 50 Botanist, requires a minimum Gathering Rating of 285.
  • Waterside Exploration XIII – Level 50 Fisher, requires a minimum Gathering Rating of 186.

It is always a good idea to have Retainers of multiple vocations, as rewards vary greatly between Ventures / FFXIV

All of these Ventures will take:

  • 18 hours to complete
  • And cost you x2 Venture Coins

Since either a Disciple of War & Magic or a Gathering Retainer has a shot at grabbing your Minion, feel free to send out both.

Breaking down the Ventures, they offer the following possible rewards, in addition to 421,000 EXP each:

Highland Exploration XIII Rewards

Allagan Silver Piece 6
Gold Ore 6 – 10

Looking over the possible rewards, your best shot is to send out a Botanist Retainer. This is simply because it has the smallest Loot table.

However, the other Ventures have chances to bring back some rare and expensive materials. Namely the Taffeta Cloth. This is used for a couple Crafts that sell pretty well due to their tasteful nature – the Taffeta Shawl and Loincloth.

So while your retainers are out searching for your minion, why not try and make it even more worth your while?

Everyone can use a little extra Gil!

Other Methods To Get Your Minute Mindflayer

Searching for the Accursed Hoard inside the Palace of the Dead / FFXIV
Searching for the Accursed Hoard inside the Palace of the Dead.

There are actually two other methods of obtaining the Minute Mindflayer Minion, albeit with worse odds.

But since you’re waiting 18 hours potentially every Venture, you’ve got time to spare.

Alternate Method 1: Bronze-trimmed Sacks found as pieces of the Accursed Hoard have a chance of containing a huge number of Minions. Including your Minute Mindflayer.

Alternate Method 2: If you’re averse to dungeon-delving, you can also head over to your Grand Company. The Material Container 3.0 (available for 20,000 Company Seals) also has a shot at containing the minion you’re looking for. Actually, it can have almost any minion from both Heavensward and A Realm Reborn.

Granted, both of those alternate methods will require a bit of luck since they’re indirect techniques compared to the Ventures.

However you go about it, best of luck in your search!
