How To Get The Sand Fox Minion (FFXIV)

The Sand Fox Minion is obtained for 400 Faux Leaves from the Faux Hollows minigame. You can access this minigame by speaking with the Faux Commander (Idyllshire – Rowena’s Center for Cultural Promotion, X:6 Y:6) after every Unreal Trial clear.

You can earn two opportunities per week, one through the use of a retelling. With that in mind, you can earn a maximum of 200 Faux Leaves per week.

That takes a bit of luck though, even if you know how Faux Hollows works.

Unreal Trials were synced Level 80 versions of Extreme Trials from A Realm Reborn. Shiva, Titan, and Leviathan were all featured throughout Shadowbringers.

Unreal Trials

As of this writing in Patch 6.1, the Unreal Trial you’ll need to tackle is “The Minstrel’s Ballad: Ultima’s Bane”. The base version of this Trial should you need it is unlocked with the Quest “The Ultimate Ballad”. It’s available at Level 50 from Alys (Mor Dhona – The Rising Stones, X:22 Y:9).

The Trials themselves don’t contain new mechanics, though it’s quite possible you’ll not have seen them before.

Strategies are widely available should you need to freshen up on fight knowledge.

One good tip for Ultima is to be mindful of your positioning. There are a lot of proximity mechanics and targeted laser explosions. Try not to huddle up too often unless you’re soaking an Aetheroplasm.

Oh yeah, and don’t try soaking an Aetheroplasm alone. Please.

Other than that, just keep your eyes on the outside for Ifrit so he doesn’t run you over and you’re good to go!

Weekly runs are almost always up in Party Finder. Simply pop in and win to claim your prize. Keep in mind you’ll need to run this twice to maximize your rewards. Aim for a Party that is willing to do back-to-back clears to save yourself some time.

Unlocking Faux Hollows

There are a few steps in order to unlock Faux Hollows and Unreal Trials.

Firstly, you will need to reach Level 60 and speak with the Unctuous Adventurer (Idyllshire, X:7 Y:6).

This begins the Quest “Keeping Up With The Aliapohs” which in turn unlocks the Wondrous Tails system. Wondrous Tails itself is a Weekly Quest that gives rewards for completing various duties.

Next, you will need to complete the Level 80 Main Story Quest “Shadowbringers”. With that and Wondrous Tails out of the way, speak with the Painfully Ishgardian Man (Idyllshire, X:7 Y:6).

The Quest “Fantastic Mr. Faux” is super quick. You’ll just need to head over to Western Idyllshire and chat with an NPC. Then you’re all set to begin diving into Unreal Trials and earning rewards!

Making Friends and Slaying Fauxs

Pictured above, Faux Hollows plays out like a sort of tile-matching game. You’ll need to flip them over and attempt to uncover images on the right.

Each picture offers a different reward.

  • A Present rewards 25 Faux Leaves
  • A Treasure Chest rewards 35 Faux Leaves
  • Dual Blades rewards 15 Faux Leaves, as well as a Retelling during your first game of Faux Hollows.
  • A Faux Commander is rare, but rewards a whopping 100 Faux Leaves.

As mentioned earlier, you’ll first want to aim for a retelling. This’ll allow you to earn a second chance at Faux Hollows, though you’ll need to complete the Unreal Trial again. Easy enough for a Warrior of Light of your caliber.

This is pretty important, since it doubles your possible weekly rewards.

So on your first play, aim for the areas that have six open tiles. This’ll guarantee you not only 15 Faux Leaves, but your retelling!

If you’re wondering what else you can earn with your faux Leaves, there are quite a few nice prizes. From mounts and glamour to useful Materia.

There’s actually a ton of great rewards from this mini-game. It’s worth taking the time to knock the Trials out back-to-back when you’ve got a little time to spare.

Best of luck in your Unreal Party Finder, may your group not wipe repeatedly to mechanics from a decade ago.
