The “Hum” emote is unlocked as a reward for completing the quest “The Fire-bird Down Below”. This is a level 70 side quest that is part of a quest line called “The Four Lords”.

Going through The Four Lords will also grant you access to the optional trials and a couple of dungeons for the Stormblood expansion. In order to complete “The Fire-bird Down Below”, you’ll need to clear the trial “Hell’s Kier”.

Once you’ve cleared Hell’s Kier and completed the quest, you can perform the emote by typing in /hum into your chat bar.

After completing the Main Scenario Quest “Hope on the Waves”, you can head on over to the Ruby Sea and speak with Soroban at (X:5.7, Y:15.7). Accept the quest “An Auspicious Encounter”, and the Four Lords quest line will begin.

An Auspicious Encounter

As soon as you accept the quest, a cutscene with Soroban and Tataru will play. Once the cutscene is over, you will be prompted to use the Duty Finder to take on the dungeon “Hell’s Lid”.

When the dungeon is cleared, you’ll find yourself in Reisen Temple – a place inhabited by auspices. Auspices are animals that have lived for a thousand years, thus achieving some form of divinity.

Most notable among these beings is Genbu, the turtle you defeated as the final boss for Hell’s Lid and one of the Four Lords. At this point in the quest, Genbu will have you speak with 3 other auspices within the temple.

After learning more about auspices and the Four Lords, make your way over to (X:5.1, Y:6.1) inside Reisen Temple to speak with Byakko. In order to help you and Genbu with your cause, you must first face Byakko in battle.

Travel to Yanxia and speak with Byakko at (X:31.7, Y:6.1). After a quick cutscene, you will be granted access to the Jade Stoa.

Once Byakko is defeated, return to the Ruby Sea and speak with Furi at (X:27.1, Y:38.3) to enter Reisen Temple. Talk to Genbu to progress the quest.

The next and final step for this quest after speaking with Genbu is to return to Tamamizu. Speak with Bunchin at (X:27.8, Y:16.4) to complete “An Auspicious Encounter”.

Tortoise in Time

To continue the Four Lords story, speak with Bunchin once more and accept the quest “Tortoise in Time”. You can find Bunchin in his usual spot at The Ruby Sea (X:27.8, Y:16.4).

Next, make your way back to Reisen Temple. You’ll need to speak with Furi at The Ruby Sea (X:27.1, Y:38.3) once again to enter.

Inside the temple, speak with Genbu. After the conversation with Genbu, Soroban, and Tataru, head on over to Yanxia and speak with Kamaitachi at (X:11.8, Y:26.9).

When you’re done speaking with Kamaitachi, “The Swallow’s Compass” will become available in the Duty Finder. This is a level 70 Dungeon that needs to be cleared to continue the quest.

After clearing the dungeon, return to Reisen Temple to speak with Genbu. This will trigger a Solo Duty where you will be joined by Genbu and Tataru.

Once the Solo Duty is cleared, return to Tamamizu and report to Bunchin to finish the quest.

To get started on the next part of the Four Lords series, speak with Bunchin in Tamamizu yet again. He’s still hanging around at The Ruby Sea (X:27.8, Y:16.4).

After speaking with Bunchin, return to Reisen Temple to meet up with Genbu. After your conversation with Genbu, speak with another auspice inside the temple named Suzaku.

This will give you access to the trial “Hell’s Kier”. Use the Duty Finder to queue up for the battle against Suzaku.

Once the trial is cleared, speak to Genbu once more. After that, return to Tamamizu and report to Bunchin at his usual spot to complete the quest.

Though there are still a couple more quests in the Four Lords storyline, this is where you will obtain the hum emote. If you wish to continue this side story, speak with Bunchin once again to accept the quest “Surpassing the Samurai”.
