Maple sugar can be crafted as a level 2 culinarian. To do this, you’ll need x1 fire shard and x1 maple syrup. Using this recipe will yield 3 maple sugars in total.

The Culinarian’s Guild can be found in the Limsa Lominsa Upper Decks at (X:9, Y:8), and is also home to the city’s premier restaurant: The Bismarck.

In order to change class into a culinarian, you must first have completed the level 10 class quest for your starting class.

If you started out in Limsa Lominsa, you can go straight to the guild once this is done.

However, if you started in any of the other two cities, you must first complete the level 15 Main Scenario Quest “The Ul’dahn/Gridanian Envoy” to be able to travel to Limsa Lominsa.

The maple syrup needed to make your own maple sugar is also crafted from a culinarian recipe.

Luckily this is one of the first recipes available when you start off your career in the culinary arts, since it’s available at level 1.

Just get x1 fire shard and x1 maple sap ready, and that’ll net you 3 maple syrups.

To obtain the maple saps, you have a couple of options. You can either go out and gather them yourself as a botanist in the North Shroud (X:26, Y:26), or you can purchase them for 3 gil apiece from the following NPCs:

NPC Location
Engerrand Limsa Lominsa Lower Decks (X:8.6, Y:11.8)
Jossy Limsa Lominsa Upper Decks (X:9.9, Y:7.8)
O’rhoyod Old Gridania (X:14.4, Y:8.9)
Fridurih Ul’dah-Steps of Thal (X:13.7, Y:9.5)
Pasdevillet The Pillars (X:7.3, Y:10.6)
Traveling Merchant Supplier The Azim Steppe (X:32.7, Y: 29)
Shirakashi Kugane (X:12, Y:12.7)
Vral The Crystarium (X:9, Y:12.3)

Fire shards are then dropped from Fire Sprite enemies, or gathered from several different mining points and botanist gathering nodes throughout Eorzea.

Should you find yourself lacking the time to go out and hunt, these items should be all available through the market board (given that they’re in stock).

Maple sugar is used in a wide variety of culinarian recipes.

Here’s a list of things you can craft using maple sugar, going up to about level 60:

  • Afternoon Tea Set
  • Apple Tart
  • Blood Currant Tart
  • Bubble Chocolate
  • Crowned Pie
  • Dark Pretzel
  • Fig Bavarois
  • Ginger Cookie
  • Glade Tea Set
  • Ishgardian Tea
  • Oriental Supper
  • Pearl Chocolate
  • Redoubtable Rolanberry Tart
  • Royal Dowager Tea Set
  • Sohm Al Tart
  • Steamed Catfish
  • Triple Cream Coffee

Some of these items, such as the Afternoon Tea Set, may stand out since they’re tabletop furnishings rather than meals.

These types of items can be placed inside your home or apartment.

But the tea sets are not only for decoration, either. After setting them down on a table, they can be used to grant yourself the “Well fed” status buff for 30 minutes.

This buff gives an experience gain bonus of 3% and several different stat buffs. Note that these sets are usually limited to about 10 uses.

Of course, should you find yourself pressed for time to craft these items (or are just plain lazy like me), you can always opt to sell your maple sugars directly through the market board.
