To unlock Bismarck Extreme, you’ll need to start the “Warring Triad” quest line. The first quest in this series is called “Gods of Eld” and is available from an NPC named Torsefers in The Pillars (X:11.7, Y:11.5).

This quest becomes available after you have completed the level 60 Main Scenario Quest “Heavensward”.

During the “Gods of Eld” quest, you will be introduced to a young boy donning white robes and a mask named Unukalhai. He tells you of the Warring Triad and how they are affected by the reemergence of certain primals you’ve already defeated.

Once you are done with “Gods of Eld”, you can find Unukalhai inside the Rising Stones in Mor Dhona. Here, he will offer you 3 more quests:

  • Thok Around the Clock
  • The Diabolical Bismarck
  • When the Bough Wakes

Note: If you decide to leave the Rising Stones at this point and continue the quest line at another time, Unukalhai’s quest marker will show up on your map when you zone into Mor Dhona. You’ll need to enter the Rising Stones once again to be able to see it.

Choose “The Diabolical Bismarck” to gain access to Bismarck Extreme. After flagging this quest, you will be asked to speak with Sonu Vanu in the Sea of Clouds (X:11.7, Y:14.8).

After speaking with Sonu Vanu, you’ll need to look for Cid who is also in the Sea of Clouds at (X:6.5, Y:25.6). Cid normally isn’t found in this spot unless you are at this point in the quest.

Finally, you will be asked to attune to the aetheryte in Whale’s Crown, a region of the Sea of Clouds found at (X:29.4, Y:27.1).

Once you’re finished attuning to the aetheryte, you are set to take on Bismarck Extreme.

You can find “The Limitless Blue (Extreme)” in the Duty Finder by checking the Trials tab and looking under the Heavensward section.

Note: Torsefers is the NPC starter for a number of other quests as well, so the blue marker for “Gods of Eld” may not show up on your map.

He can be found just outside of Fortemps Manor, and speaking with him will let you select which quest of his you’d like to start.

Why Take On Bismarck Extreme?

Defeating Bismarck on this difficulty can reward you with several different weapons and items.

Let’s see what this trial has to offer for players.

Expanse Totem

Expanse Totem / FFXIV

This item is a guaranteed drop and serves as a form of currency that can be exchanged with Bertana in Idyllshire (X:5.9, Y:5.2).

You can get an Expanse Weapon of your choosing for 10 totems or the White Lanner Whistle for 99. The White Lanner Whistle is used to obtain the White Lanner mount.

Bismarck’s Baleen

Expanse Baleen / FFXIV

This is a crafting material that is used in two recipes.

Armorers can craft an Expanse Barding with it at level 60. Goldsmiths can also use it for crafting an Expanse Fountain, also at level 60.

Bismarck Card

A 4-star card for the Triple Triad mini-game. It’s values starting from the left going clockwise are 8, 1, 9, and 7.

You may want to get your hands on this if you’re a hardcore Triple Triad fan or just love collecting the cards. You can also get this card from the Hard version of The Limitless Blue or by defeating Linu Vali (The Sea of Clouds X:6.0, Y:14.0) in a game of Triple Triad.

Extra copies of cards can also be sold for MGP at the Golden Saucer.

Treasure Coffer Rewards

Aside from the items players can obtain directly after defeating Bismarck, a coffer will spawn before exiting the instance. Inside are items that everyone in your party will have to cast lots for.

Here’s a list of items that can be found inside this coffer:

  • Expanse Sword
  • Expanse Battleaxe
  • Expanse Greatsword
  • Expanse Partisan
  • Expanse Patas
  • Expanse Katana
  • Expanse Machetes
  • Expanse Longbow
  • Explanse Handgonne
  • Expanse Longpole
  • Expanse Grimoire
  • Expanse Rapier
  • Expanse Cane
  • Expanse Codex
  • Expanse Astrometer
  • Expanse Shield
  • Expanse Baleen
  • Expanse Weapon Coffer
  • White Lanner Whistle
  • Faded Copy of Limitless Blue
  • Faded Copy of Woe That Is Madness

Expanse weapons aren’t really of any use anymore outside of desynthesizing them for crafting materials. These materials can be used to make the “Endless Expanse” weapons which are still quite popular to use as weapon glamours.

Because of this, they can be sold on the market board for quite a bit of gil.
