Advertisement is all around us. It contributes to our daily lives more than some people realize, and if it were to suddenly go away, life would feel downright unreal.
Following that logic, adding real-world advertisement to a game like Grand Theft Auto 5 is a fantastic way to make the game’s open world more immersive and lifelike.
The sight of real-life brands we all know and love like Coca-Cola, Mcdonald’s, or Samsung can make Los Santos feel like any other city in the developed world, so modders have been hard at work at bringing them to GTA 5.
Let’s take a look at what they’ve come up with!
10. Real Telecommunication Ads
Telecommunications have helped humanity become interconnected in a way never seen before.
This has given companies offering these services a lot of power and value, so advertisements for their products and services are everywhere worldwide.
Real Telecom. Ads will extend their reach into Los Santos, populating the available highway billboard real estate with ads for T-Mobile, Verizon, and many lesser-known providers.
9. 1990s Ads for Downtown & Vinewood
Nowadays, most companies focus their advertisement campaigns on the small screens we all carry in our pockets – but, back in the day, billboards were the real MVPs of marketing.
This mod will help you relive the golden age of billboards by coating the Downtown and Vinewood neighborhoods with iconic ads from the 1990s.
You’ll see ads for 90s movies like Pulp Fiction and Forrest Gump, old-timey publicity for Budweiser and Coca-Cola, and even one of those bizarre Game Boy Color ads Nintendo used to run.
8. Real-life Vintage Animated Ads
Real-life Vintage Animated Ads brings a piece of the 60s and 70s to Los Santos.
Smaller billboards around Los Santos Hospital and Del Pero Pier will now advertise Mcdonald’s and Burger King the same way they did five decades ago.
Other iconic ads include Marlboro’s “Come to wherever the flavor is” campaign and publicity for Elvis Presley’s King Creole musical drama.
Heineken Beer, Mercedes-Benz automobiles… the list goes on and on, so make sure to try this out!
7. Milka Billboard
I love advertisement campaigns that dare to think outside of the box.
Lovers of sweet and delicious European milk chocolate will go wild for this Milka Billboard, featuring a Milka-crazed lady putting everything on the line to get a taste of that smooth cacao bar.
I’ve been so conditioned by Milka that the mere sight of the iconic lilac and white color palette makes me drool.
If the prize was a giant Milka chocolate bar 10 times my size, I’d probably risk my life too.
6. Maze Bank Arena to Lakers Home
In case you couldn’t tell, Los Santos is based on the American city of Los Angeles, California – home of the Angeles Lakers, one of the country’s most famous basketball teams.
The Maze Bank Arena in GTA 5 is based directly on the LA Forum in Inglewood, which housed the Los Angeles Lakers from 1967 to 1999, and retains a special connection to the team.
This mod helps you give your city a strong dose of realism by covering every available surface of the Arena with Lakers advertisement.
It even changes the Maze Arena Sign to read “Staples Center,” which is the current home of the Lakers.
5. Samsung Billboards
Our consumerist society likes nothing more than a new smartphone to replace last year’s.
In part, that’s thanks to the aggressive marketing of companies like Samsung.
With Samsung Billboards, ads for Samsung phones and tablets will dominate the city’s skyline with massive billboards near Hookah Palace in Vespucci.
Admittedly, they’re not the latest phones – as nobody has the time to update these mods twice a year – but it’ll still boost realism and immersion.
4. Apple Billboards
People love to talk about the culture war on Twitter and other social media – but the real culture war is between Team Android and Team Apple.
High-class prestige and the best photography software in the market have given the iPhone and other Apple products the upper hand for a long while – so a fast-paced, high-income city like Los Santos should be full of Apple ads.
With this mod, you’ll find advertisement for the iPhone 8, iPhone X, and Apple Watch on the largest billboards in town.
3. UK Moving Billboards
There aren’t that many small billboards around Los Santos – so moving advertisements are a great way to allow several companies to reach their consumer base.
UK Moving Billboards introduces some of these dynamic billboards around the map. They’ll change the featured advertisement every five seconds to keep up with our short attention spans.
KFC and Heinz Ketchup are some of the major contributors to this campaign – but it’s not all food. You’ll also find content from Irish cosmetics brand Primark, among others.
If you enjoy this add-on, make sure to check out Part 2.
2. UK Ads for Bus Stops
Bus stops all over Los Santos offer prime real estate for advertising your products to the thousands of pedestrians trying to avoid being run over by the player.
This amazing pack of bus stop billboards brings 15 different ads straight from the United Kingdom.
Some major international brands featured in this mod include Glaceau Smartwater, Nike, Mcdonald’s, and Ikea, along with some more local names like Costa Coffee and LUSH Cosmetics.
1. Real Life Venice Beach
Here’s one for people who live in real-life Los Angeles – or those who’d give an arm and a leg to visit this cultural melting pot of the Western hemisphere.
Real Life Venice Beach is an in-depth overhaul of every business and available advertisement space in the entire Vespucci neighborhood to resemble the real-life Venice Beach ‘hood it’s inspired by.
Around 95% of the shops, signs, and billboards were retextured to mirror their real-life counterparts.
Now, you’ll find ads for the Lakers and a wealth of real-life businesses selling everything from coffee to legal cannabis products. Even the Venice Beach Freakshow is here!
