The short answer is yes, NNK:CW is pretty F2P friendly, but spending money on the game gives you significant advantages and perks like:

  • Increased Inventory Space
  • More AI Mode Time
  • Reduced Login Queue Time
  • Faster Combat Power Growth
  • Faster Leveling
  • Higher Farming Efficiency
  • Faster Awakening of Familiars and Equipment

While you do get a lot of free stuff, the game is still built with a system that allows P2W players (especially whales) to outgrow F2P players from the same starting point at a very fast rate.

Despite that, you can still play this game completely F2P and perhaps even keep up with some lower-level spenders if you know what you’re doing.

And to help with that, here are some of the best tips for F2P players and some things that they definitely should and should not do!

Best Tips For F2P Players

It’s entirely your choice if you want to play the game casually or keep up with other players. Both gameplay styles are equally viable and the game is still loads of fun either way.

Just remember that the best thing you can do for your account is to be consistent.

My tips below will help you improve your F2P experience — especially if you want to stay competitive!

Tip #1: Always Buy Gold-Purchasable Items In The Shop

Check-In Pass (Purchase Prompt)

If you’re a F2P player, chances are, you won’t be able to buy a lot of items from the Shop — since most of them require Diamonds and IRL moolah to buy.

What you definitely can buy completely F2P are the items you can purchase with Gold.

Here are some Gold-Purchasable items that you should prioritize buying in the Shop whenever you have enough Gold, along with their Priority Levels (Must-Buy/Optional):

Gold- Purchasable Items Cost Purchase Limit Per Day/Week Item Type/Purpose Priority Level
Check-In Pass 10 Gold 1 per 14 days Account Growth Must-Buy
Master’s Magic Tome Check-In Pass 10 Gold 1 per 14 days Account Growth Must-Buy
Familiar Power Up Supply Chest Free/20,000 Gold 2 per day Account Growth Must-Buy
Equipment Power Up Supply Chest Free/20,000 Gold 2 per day Account Growth Must-Buy
Sweet Cappuccino 1,000 Gold Unlimited Consumable Item (Buff) Optional
Delicious Coupe Bread 1,000 Gold Unlimited Consumable Item (Buff) Optional
HP Potions (Small, Medium & Large) 300 Gold, 600 Gold & 1,200 Gold (Respectively) Unlimited Consumable Item (Healing) Must-Buy (Medium Potion Recommended)
Extraction Tool 10,000 Gold Unlimited Gem Removal Optional
Treasure Chest Key 1,000 Gold 50 per day Opening Chests in the World Map Optional
Megaphone 3,000 Gold 10 per day Sending Messages in the World Chat Optional
Biscuit 3,000 Gold 30 per week Catching Familiars in the World Map Optional

NOTE: Item availability and prices may vary over time.

Tip #2: Always AFK Farm

AI Mode (Reward Results) / Ni No Kuni: Cross Worlds
AI Mode (Reward Results)

For all players, a huge amount of your time in this game should be AFK Farming through the use of AI Mode.

For F2P players, manually AFK farming by leaving your character on Auto-Battle is also a viable option.

This is because players only have a total of 4 Hours of AI Mode Time without making any purchases. That’s way too little!

Tip #3: Buy Energy Drinks In The Shop Regularly

If you’re wondering where to best spend your Diamonds as a F2P player, then look no further.

Energy Drinks are by far one of the best shop items to spend them on!

You don’t necessarily have to buy them every day, but picking them up as often as you can is highly advisable even if you’re completely F2P.

Tip #4: Join a Kingdom

Kingdom Facilities (Dominion) / Ni No Kuni: Cross Worlds
Kingdom Facilities (Dominion)

If you haven’t yet joined a Kingdom— F2P or otherwise — then I urge you to join one right this instant!

Joining a Kingdom will give you access to lots of perks such as more unlocked game modes, Food Buffs, Theater Buffs, the General Store, the Auction House, and many more.

All the benefits you get for joining a Kingdom are highly indispensable, especially if you’re a F2P player.

Tip #5: Always Clear Your Dailies and Weeklies

Dailies (All Rewards Claimable) / Ni No Kuni: Cross Worlds
Dailies (All Rewards Claimable)

The greatest inhibiting factor for NNK: Cross Worlds players (or Global players at least), is the availability of Territe — amongst several other resources.

This is why you should always clear your Dailies and Weeklies.

Doing this will not only give you a consistent supply of Territe, but also other valuable resources like Energy Potions, Aromas of Focus, Familiar Eggs, Medals, and more!

Tip #6: Watch Out For Events

Bingo Event (Select Final Reward Prompt) / Ni No Kuni: Cross Worlds

If you’re a completely F2P player who’s often starved for resources, then Events will be your best source of grindable precious resources and materials.

Events are like the holy grail of free stuff.

As a F2P player, you must participate in them if you want to rise above your peers.

Some Events send you rewards in your mail if you simply log in at certain times, so make sure to do that often at the very least.

Tip #7: Make Alt Characters

Character Selection Screen / Ni No Kuni: Cross Worlds
Character Selection Screen

One of the main problems of being purely F2P is that you’ll run out of Inventory space and account growth materials (Enhancement Stones, Upgrade Stones, Evolution Fruits, etc.) relatively quickly.

This is why creating and leveling up alt characters is a definite necessity for F2P Players.

Creating and leveling up characters up to a certain point allows you to get more Inventory spaces, account growth materials, and even Diamonds, so make sure to do it as soon as you can!

Do’s & Don’ts For F2P Players

Mechadragon Boss (In-game Cutscene) / Ni No Kuni: Cross Worlds
Mechadragon Boss (In-game Cutscene)

While you can do a lot of things right as a F2P player by following the tips I’ve listed above, you can also do a lot of things wrong if you’re not careful.

Do’s

  • Do prioritize acquiring Territe in Familiar Adventures
  • Do visit your Familiar Forest often for summoning materials
  • Do clear your Power Up Dungeons every day for much-needed growth materials
  • Do clear Field Bosses and Chaos Gates often for extra equipment and medals
  • Do save up for the Normal Banner only if you want to use Diamonds to pull for Familiars

Don’ts

  • Don’t spend Diamonds on Gear Summons and Costume Summons
  • Don’t spend Diamonds on any kind of refresh (PVP, Familiar PVP, Power Up Dungeons, etc.)
  • Don’t spend Territe on Equipment and Familiars that you don’t plan on using long term
  • Don’t neglect your PVP game modes. They’ll give you bonus CP and rewards no matter how low your rank is
  • Don’t overbuy Energy Potions and Aromas of Focus in the Shop. Instead, only buy them once on any given day

Bottom Line: How F2P Is Ni No Kuni: Cross Worlds?

Glowy (In-game Cutscene)

Playing NNK:CW completely F2P is fun and doable. You’ll have no problems if you can ignore having less inventory space, less AI Mode time, a login queue, and slower CP growth.

But just to highlight how even friendlier this game is to spenders:

Currently, you can straight-up buy 600 Territe for just $1 via NKT Tokens.

That’s over a week of painstaking F2P Territe farming — gone with a buck!

At the end of the day, you can absolutely enjoy playing this game without spending any money — especially if you just want to experience its amazing story and soundtrack.

But the reality is that spenders will have a much easier time progressing through the game than you, which is why you should avoid comparing your progress to them and just play at your own pace!
