Powering up your Heart Stars allows you to increase both your character’s Combat Power and all kinds of different stats like:

  • Hit Points (HP)
  • Attack (ATK)
  • Crit (CRIT)
  • Defense (DEF)
  • Evasion (EVA)
  • Crit Resist (CRIT RES)
  • Elemental Def (E. DEF)
  • Elemental Attack (E. ATK)

All you have to do is collect enough materials to upgrade your Heart Stars, which include (but are not limited to):

  • Competitive Hearts
  • Familiar Galaxy Star Fragments
  • Elemental Star Auras (Fire, Water, Earth, Light & Darkness)
  • Sparkling Hearts

How To Power Up Heart Stars (Step-by-step)

To open the Heart Stars page from your Main Screen, simply head over to your Menu by clicking the top-right icon with three bars:

Main Screen > Menu / Ni No Kuni: Cross Worlds
Main Screen > Menu

Next, click the “Power Up” icon highlighted in the image below to reveal three different mechanics that’ll help you boost your Combat Power.

Menu > Power Up / Ni No Kuni: Cross Worlds
Menu > Power Up

One of those three mechanics is your Heart Stars, which you’ll be able to view and power up by clicking the “Heart Stars” icon:

Power Up > Heart Stars / Ni No Kuni: Cross Worlds
Power Up > Heart Stars

From there, you’ll be able to see the Heart Stars that are currently available to you.

Some will be locked the first time you access the Heart Stars mechanic, but you’ll eventually be able to unlock them all after you reach a certain level, which is Level 85 at the moment.

If you choose a specific Heart Star, you’ll be able to see constellations made up of different nodes — each unlockable by different materials and Gold.

Once you have the necessary materials, unlockable nodes will be marked by a red “!” just like the one highlighted in the image below.

This means that you’ll be able to unlock them after clicking on them — which will then show you the following prompt:

Power Up Heart Star (x3,000 Gold) / Ni No Kuni: Cross Worlds
Power Up Heart Star (x3,000 Gold)

After checking which materials will be consumed and the Gold cost carefully, you may now unlock that specific node and power up your Heart Star!

And there we go! Easy, right?

Make sure you unlock nodes that’ll increase the most beneficial stats for your main character first!

Tank/Tank-Support Hybrid HP, DEF, E. DEF, CRIT RES
DPS/DPS-Support Hybrid ATK, CRIT, E. ATK

Where To Get Heart Stars

Generally, anything related to Familiars will give you the materials to power up your Hearts Stars.

Here are the game modes that you should be playing if you want to farm Heart Star upgrade materials:

  • Familiar Battle (Recommended)
  • Familiar Adventure
  • Familiar Forest

Source #1: Familiar Battle (Recommended)

Weekly Grade Reward (Familiar Adventure) / Ni No Kuni: Cross Worlds
Weekly Grade Reward (Familiar Adventure)

Familiar Battle is just like your regular ol’ player PVP — but it’s for Familiars and is a 5v5 team match rather than just solo battles.

Your goal is to defeat as many premade Familiar defense teams as you can, and rise in the ranks for more rewards at the end of each week.

Familiar Battle is the best source of Competitive Heart Stars. Win or lose, you’ll still be able to get them as battle rewards so be sure to fight as often as you can!

Source #2: Familiar Adventure

Familiar Adventures are another way to farm Heart Star upgrade materials by putting your Familiars up against other AI-controlled Familiars.

The only difference between this game mode and Familiar Battles is that you’ll get Elemental Heart Auras instead of Competitive Hearts here.

You can only farm Elemental Heart Auras through battling Wild Familiars. You cannot get them from occupying resource mines!

Source #3: Familiar Forest

Familiar Forest Rewards

Farming upgrade materials from your Familiar Forest is by far the easiest of the three, since you only need to visit your Familiars here occasionally to reap the rewards.

The only catch is that you can only farm Sparkling Hearts here and not much else.

Sparkling Hearts will be among the most plentiful Heart Star upgrade materials you’ll have after playing the game for a while, but I still recommend visiting your Familiar Forest every day.

And your Familiar Forest is one of the very few sources of Familiar Eggs, Sprout Coins, Sands of Time, and Dream Shards — not just Sparkling Hearts!
