Where To Farm Memory Shards in Octopath Traveler: CotC
This post may contain affiliate links. If you buy something we may get a small commission at no extra cost to you. (Learn more). In the beginning of COTC, the best and most consistent source of Memory Shards is your Daily Tasks.
As you progress through the game, your Nameless Town will give you more Memory Shards via sellable house-building materials.
Besides those two methods, the only other good source of getting Memory Shards would be as Giveaway Rewards, which you typically receive in your Mail.
How To Access the Memory Shard Exchange Shop (Step-by-Step)
You can access the Memory Shard Exchange Shop by first clicking the “Menu” icon on your Main Screen:
Next, click the “Exchange” icon at the bottom of the screen to go to the Exchange Page:
On your Exchange Page, click the bottom-most option — “Other”.
This will lead you to the Memory Point Exchange Shop.
And there you go — you now have access to the Memory Shard Exchange Shop!
Here, you can buy all kinds of items with Memory Shards — Guidestones, most notably, which you need a lot of to max out your units.
Farming Method #1: Daily Tasks (Best in the Early Game)
The best source of Memory Shards in the early game is your Daily Tasks, which give you 20 Memory Shards per day.
Technically, it is also the most consistent source listed here, since your Nameless Town won’t start pumping out Memory Shards like crazy until you’ve built several houses in your Nameless Town.
Maxing out your Nameless Town can take a long time, which is why you need to always complete at least 3 daily tasks per day to get those free 20 Memory Shards early on.
Farming Method #2: Nameless Town (Best in the Late Game)
You can get Memory Shards in the Memory Shard Exchange Shop by selling items like:
- Sturdy Lumber
- Sturdy Hide
- Sturdy Stone
These materials can be farmed from Elite Monsters in the Nameless Wasteland — a place just east of your Nameless Town that you unlock during a Side Story Quest called “The First House”.
TIP: To access your Nameless Town and the Nameless Wasteland, you must first talk to an NPC named Nephti in Theatropolis to start a Side Story Quest called “Seen in a Dream”.
Theatropolis can be visited as soon as you start your “Master of Fame” Main Story Quests.
Farming Method #3: Giveaway Rewards
The devs are generous enough to give us players a decent amount of Memory Shards often, so I recommend always checking your mail for giveaways.
You can also get Memory Shards as rewards from Achievements, Memoir entries, or even Events — so keep your eyes peeled for these handouts!
TIP: The sooner you max out your Nameless Town, the better your Memory Shard output will be.
In the meantime, make sure to always check for extra sources of Memory Shards like this — preferably from their Discord channel where they often release announcements regarding giveaways.
