In the wild world of One Piece, you can rely on two things – piracy, of course, being one of them.
The other is a vast array of incredible powers derived from eating Devil Fruits – which for the cost of being able to swim will grant some unique abilities.
Now, not all of these Fruits are as worthwhile as others… but the ones that are worthwhile?
You’re looking at abilities beyond your wildest dreams. And let’s take a look at some of the best out there.
Spoiler warning – there are spoilers for the One Piece manga and anime ahead, so proceed with caution if you don’t want anything revealed prematurely.
15. Human-Human Fruit, Model: Buddha (Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Daibatsu)
In stark contrast to the near-uselessness of the base Human-Human Fruit, the Model: Buddha seems comically powerful.
After it was consumed by Sengoku, he was given the ability to turn into an enormous gold Buddha statue when he chooses.
We can look past the tiny little legs the Fruit grants you, because it’s the huge, over-proportioned arms we have to worry about.
Immensely strong, the shock waves they can cause were seen matching the Tremor power of Blackbeard himself. That’s some serious force!
With seemingly no weakness besides the usual removal of your swimming certificates, the Model: Buddha is power on an almost unmatched scale when it comes to combat.
14. Tremor-Tremor Fruit (Gura Gura no Mi)
Also known as the Quake-Quake Fruit, this is one of only a handful of Fruits to have multiple users, as both Whitebeard and Blackbeard got to have a turn with it.
The abilities it grants vary, but most of them involve causing huge earthquakes.
Not only that, but it also grants the user the ability to manipulate the very air around them, with untold potential for chaos.
While the Fruit’s power has been seen to be matched, the devastation it causes is simply awesome.
Not one, but two of the highest-ranking Marine officers were not only terrified of it – but also knew that it could cause the end of the world in the right hands.
Or the wrong ones.
13. Bird-Bird Fruit, Model: Phoenix (Tori Tori no Mi, Model: Phoenix)
There are a few Devil Fruits that allow the user to transform into birds. But being able to transform into an immortal one that’s shrouded by healing flames edges out the other options by some margin.
That’s the power Marco finds himself with when he eats the Bird-Bird Fruit, Model: Phoenix.
The blue flames that surround him don’t burn, but can heal any injury at a crazy speed – including injuries that have killed him.
They can also be used as a shield; just in case you didn’t think he had quite enough defensive and recovery capability.
In addition to all this, the Fruit also grants the ability to fly, plus superhuman strength.
You’ve got to feel sorry for anyone who winds up with a Devil Fruit that turns them into a sparrow in comparison.
12. Dark-Dark Fruit (Yami Yami no Mi)
Described as the “most evil” power of all Devil Fruits, the Dark-Dark Fruit that Blackbeard steals and consumes gives him two distinct sets of abilities.
The first is the ability to control darkness itself – a darkness that the person who eats the Fruit can create and manipulate to bind, move, and crush enemies.
But this darkness can also be used to create a pseudo-black hole that traps things inside. And if you need an indication of the actual power level, Blackbeard used it to suck in and trap an entire town.
The second ability from this Fruit is unique, and possibly one of the most powerful Devil Fruit abilities full-stop.
When the user touches another Devil Fruit user, it completely negates the power and abilities of the person touched.
There’s little wonder why Blackbeard was so feared.
11. Soul-Soul Fruit (Soru Soru no Mi)
Currently possessed by Charlotte Linlin in the anime, the Soul-Soul Fruit is a fairly terrifying prospect.
Which works in its favor, as it can only be used when the target is afraid.
Basically, when the target is suitably spooked, the user can physically grab their soul and pull it out of their body.
The soul can then be stored in objects (but not other humans or corpses) called “Homies”, which become a living and walking servant with a human soul.
If that doesn’t sound bad enough for you, the user of this Fruit can also decide to take as much life off of your life span as they choose when they grab your soul – be that a few seconds, or everything you have left at once.
You’d have a hard time not being scared staring down the Soul-Soul Fruit.
10. Gas-Gas Fruit (Gasu Gasu no Mi)
There are a few Fruits that allow the user to change their state of matter.
The Gas-Gas Fruit might sound like the power is in the name, but there’s more than meets the eye here.
You see, the person who eats it turn themselves into a gas at will, allowing them to float and fly and presumably sneak around quite effectively…
But also, the gases in the air around them can be manipulated too.
Do you want to knock someone out? Bye-bye, oxygen!
It’s a tremendously powerful ability that doubles as both offensive and defensive.
Oh, and I almost forgot, this user can create spontaneous explosions as well. How’s that for a cherry on top?
9. Barrier-Barrier Fruit (Bari Bari no Mi)
This Fruit has one of the strongest defensive applications on this list.
By simply crossing their fingers, the user creates a barrier – transparent or opaque, for flair purposes perhaps – that can withstand some of the most powerful attacks.
In the anime, it was seen to be able to withstand hits that damaged characters that are all but invincible – and also reflect attacks to the attacker, meaning that there are some offensive capabilities too.
And it doesn’t stop there.
Because this ability can even be used as a physical platform, seen when the current user Bartolomeo created a set of stairs to traverse to a difficult to reach place.
Sometimes the shield can be more powerful than the sword!
8. Stomp-Stomp Fruit (Zushi Zushi no Mi)
Named for the thumping sound an object makes when it hits the ground with extreme prejudice, the Stomp-Stomp Fruit has less to do with stomping, and more to do with manipulating gravity in all directions.
Able to throw about both living things and objects, this user can move super heavy weights like they were balloons, before slamming them into the ground. Or into other objects, or people.
This power is strong that the current user Issho managed to pull a meteorite out of space.
Yes, that Space.
But if ultra-powerful telekinesis doesn’t do it for you, this ability can also simulate flight by applying gravity-shifting to objects under the user.
But it’s the offensive portion of events that earmarks this Fruit as a force to be reckoned with.
7. Mag-Mag Fruit (Magu Magu no Mi)
As a Logia-type Fruit with seemingly no weaknesses, the Mag-Mag Fruit has possibly the strongest attacking power of any Fruit in One Piece.
The magma produced by the user can boil the ocean, melt swords like candlesticks, and even bypass any heat of fire-resistant Devil Fruit abilities.
Because it’s a Logia-type, you’re out of luck trying physical attacks on the user unless you’re a Haki user yourself – and even then, you still have to catch them off guard.
Some of the feats we see the Mag-Mag Fruit accomplish are vaporizing an iceberg completely, altering the weather into a firestorm on one side of an island due to overuse, and taking on multiple Devil Fruit users at once with ease.
Even for Logia-Fruits, it’s in a class of its own.
6. Ice-Ice Fruit (Hie Hie no Mi)
This is the chilly counterpart to Akainu’s Mag-mag Fruit, and the strictly better version of the Snow-Snow Fruit.
This Fruit allowed Kuzan to go toe-to-toe with Akainu in a ten-day war that split an island into two distinct biomes – fire and ice.
You see, the Ice-Ice Fruit can freeze an entire ocean. Which, given that it’s saltwater, only highlights just how strong this power is.
And it can also freeze people into highly shatter-able statues in a matter of seconds – or create ice spears and icicles for deadly ranged attacks.
With fire being its only serious weakness (obviously), this Devil Fruit is tough to beat, and worthy of being in the Logia power class.
5. Op-Op Fruit (Ope Ope no Mi)
This is quite possibly one of the coolest Fruits, in my opinion.
And there’s honestly an insane amount that the Op-Op Fruit can do.
If you find yourself in the spherical ROOM this Fruit creates, well, good luck.
The sphere allows the user (currently Trafalgar Law as of this writing) total free modification of everything inside of it. Be that size, shape, orientation, or movements.
It’s absolute and complete control on an atomic level – but that’s not all it can do.
With the sphere’s abilities, it’s possible to cure disease or remove physical disabilities with the most precise surgery ever.
Still not enough for you?
How about being able to trade the user’s life to make someone else immortal?
This Fruit was so highly coveted that it was nicknamed the “Ultimate Fruit”.
And I can’t see any reason why it doesn’t deserve that moniker.
4. Chop-Chop Fruit (Bara Bara no Mi)
Here’s one of the earliest Fruits to be demonstrated in the series.
And the Chop-Chop Fruit remains to be one of the most versatile and powerful in One Piece even to this day.
Buggy’s Fruit allows him to become near-immortal when sliced – he can simply control the strips he’s been cut into independently, either to attack an opponent, lift items he could never usually lift, or reform himself T-1000 style into his original body.
Being completely immune to slashing and blade attacks in a world full of pirates with swords would be strong enough on its own…
But it’s what he can do with his body in pieces that make this Fruit almost unbeatable.
3. Glint-Glint Fruit (Pika Pika no Mi)
As far as speed goes, the speed of light is pretty much your limit.
And the Glint-Glint Fruit not only allows you to travel at the speed of light – but also turns you into light itself, with all the advantages that come with it.
Shooting incredibly powerful laser blasts, dodging point-blank gunshots, or swinging a fist at the speed of light makes the combat capabilities of this Fruit almost unmatched.
Being a Logia Fruit does give it some weakness against Haki users – but unless they can also move at the speed of light? They’re going to have a tough time.
Same as anyone else against Borsalino and the Glint-Glint Fruit.
