How To Get Doduo in Pokémon FireRed & LeafGreen

In both FireRed and LeafGreen, Doduo can be found on Routes 16, 17, and 18, as well as in the Safari Zone in Area 1 and Area 2.

Doduo has about a 35% encounter rate on the three routes and will be level 18 – 28.

Or in the Safari Zone, Doduo will have a 20% encounter rate and be level 26 every time.

Doduo Locations

Doduo isn’t an extremely rare or hard Pokémon to find – but he is stuck behind a couple of barriers.

Before you can get Doduo, you’re going to need to have Cut or the Bike.

You’ll also need to reach Celadon City first, since Doduo doesn’t really appear until the Routes and towns after Celadon.

Location 1: Route 16 (West of Celadon City)

The first place that you can find Doduo is on Route 16, just west of Celadon City.

If you head west you will see a Snorlax blocking the path and a tree blocking a gate.

Cut down the tree and head into the tall grass just beyond it. This grass has plenty of Doduos in it just waiting to be caught!

Location 2: Route 17 (Further West of Celadon City)

Route 17 is also to the west of Celadon, but requires a bike and a Pokéflute to reach.

If you head to the left side of Celadon, you’ll reach Route 16 and see a giant Snorlax blocking your path. You need to use the Pokéflute to get past this Snorlax.

After you make it past the Snorlax, you can enter the gate onto Route 17 – but you won’t be able to cross unless you have a Bicycle, which you can get from Cerulean City after getting the Voucher from the Pokémon Fan Club in Vermilion City.

Once you have the bike, you can enter Cycling Road/Route 17 and head to any patch of grass to find Doduo.

Location 3: Route 18 (West of Fuchsia City)

Fuchsia City is practically the home of Doduo, and has many places to catch the odd bird Pokémon.

If you head west of Fuchsia City, you’ll come across a patch of grass in a fenced-in area. There will be a few trainers here as well, but once you beat them you can continue your search unabated.

Location 4: Safari Zone (Fuchsia City)

Finally, the last place to catch wild Doduo is in the Safari Zone in Fuchsia City.

Doduo shows up quite a bit here, so you won’t have to look long. Specifically, Doduo will show up in these Areas of the Safari Zone:

Area 1 (To the East)

Area 3 (To the West)

I recommend searching in Area 1, as Area 3 is a bit difficult/annoying to get to.

You only get a certain amount of steps to catch Pokémon in the Safari Zone, so it’s better to spend all of your steps hunting down your favorite bird!
