Where To Get Fast Balls & White Apricorns (Pokémon HGSS)

Pewter City White Apricorn Tree (HeartGold)

When you give Kurt White Apricorns in Azalea Town, he will create Fast Balls for you. These special Poké balls offer a better catch rate the higher the wild Pokémon’s Speed stat is.

In HeartGold & SoulSilver, White Apricorns can be found:

  • On Apricorn trees on Route 38, and in Azalea Town and Pewter City.
  • For sale for 200 points at the Pokéathlon Dome on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.

We’ll show you where exactly each White Apricorn tree is located, how to turn them into Fast Balls, and give you in-depth information on how they work.

How To Get Fast Balls

You can make your first Fast Ball as soon as you’ve cleared Team Rocket out of Slowpoke Well in Azalea Town.

Once you’ve defeated them, head to Kurt’s house in the top left corner of town. There’s even a White Apricorn growing right outside.

Give him your White Apricorns and he’ll take a day to turn them into Fast Balls. He’ll give you a call on your Pokégear once they’re finished.

Kurt can only make one kind of Pokéball at a time, but you can give him more than one of the same color of Apricorn.

If you power through the start of the game without talking to anyone, you might miss the Apricorn Box, leaving you unable to harvest them.

If that’s the case, return to the house on Route 30 located just north of Cherrygrove City.

All White Apricorn Tree Locations

Aside from the White Apricorn tree directly next to Kurt’s house, there are two other tree locations in the game.

Let’s look into the exact spots of the two remaining White Apricorn trees step-by-step.

Note: Apricorn trees bear fruit daily, so you can always return each day to harvest them again.

Route 38

The next White Apricorn tree after the one outside Kurt’s house is found on Route 38.

You’ll need to have defeated Gym Leader Morty and earned your 4th gym badge to access it.

Once you’ve done this, leave Ecruteak City using the west gate onto Route 38.

See the way the picket fence splits the path in half in the picture above? You want to follow that going to the west.

Keep walking to the west along that path, and before long you’ll come to a White Apricorn tree.

Pewter City

The final White Apricorn is super easy to find.

However, it is deep in Kanto, so you’ll have to be pretty far through the game to reach it.

Once you’ve reached Pewter City, locating it is as simple as heading to the town’s top right corner.

Alternate Method: Winning Apricorns at the Pokéathlon Dome

If you play a lot of events at the Pokéathlon Dome, you can spend your winnings on Apricorns.

However, unless you’re a big fan of the events themselves, it’s probably quicker to pick them by hand.

You can find the Pokéathlon Dome at the top of Route 35. It shares an entrance with the National Park.

You’ll find White Apricorns on sale here for 200 points each on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.

To buy them, head to the Athlete Shop in the top right corner of the interior.

Fast Ball Mechanics

Fast Balls are four times more effective than a regular Pokéball when used on any Pokémon with a base Speed stat of 100 or higher.

However, if the wild Pokémon’s base Speed is less than 100, they are only as effective as a regular Pokéball.
