Psst. Don’t tell the other pet owners, but they got shafted!

There’s so much cool stuff you can do with your pet bird in Sea of Thieves, and they’ll gladly chill out in the Bird Cage in your Captain’s Quarters if you don’t want them getting into trouble.

All the birds look adorable with a hat on too – so much that they can warm even the iciest of Reaper Hearts.

So no matter what kind of pirate you are, you deserve a feathered friend – and here are the best in the game!

10. Crimson Macaw

Cost: 499 Ancient Coins
Shop Location: Pirate Emporium

When you ask people what a Parrot looks like, right off the top of their head I think a lot would picture something like this one.

The Crimson Macaw bears a striking resemblance to a real Scarlett Macaw, with the pretty yellow and blue feathers on its wings. And it’s basically the most “traditional” looking parrot – not only in the Sea of Thieves, but in IRL as well.

Hey, you know what they say:

Original is best, and a perfect start to this list.

9. Grey Wing Parakeet

Cost: 499 Ancient Coins
Shop Location: Pirate Emporium

If the Crimson Macaw isn’t what comes into your head when you think “Parrot”, then chances are it’s this design instead.

The Grey Wing Parakeet looks suspiciously similar to an African Grey. But the best thing about this pet is just about any outfit works perfectly on it.

There’s no ‘best’ outfit here… but if you want a recommendation, hurry up and become a Pirate Legend so you can give your parrot a Pirate Legend outfit as well!

8. Plumcap Macaw

Cost: 499 Gold
Shop Location: Pirate Emporium

If you’re the kind of pirate that gets hungry and helps yourself to whatever’s in the food barrels, then I think I’ve found a pet you can blame it all on (you monster).

The Plumcap Macaw is a parrot with vibrant green feathers and a purple face.

As its name suggests, it looks like it’s been wearing a plum for a hat. And since those aren’t in the game, I think we can just blame all the missing pomegranates on it instead.

7. Gold Curse Macaw

Cost: 649 Ancient Coins
Shop Location: Pirate Emporium

If you’re a pirate with expensive tastes (or if you just have a craving for gold) then this next parrot skin may put a smile on your face.

The Gold Curse Macaw is a magnificent golden bird with sparkling aqua gems for eyes.

I wouldn’t want to get this pet wet either – just in case it rusts like the metal skeletons.

And the bird probably weighs a ton when it sits on your arm… but don’t be sad about the curse, they seem pretty chirpy about it!

6. Campfire Cockatoo

Cost: 499 Ancient Coins
Shop Location: Pirate Emporium

Roaring campfires are usually a bad idea in Sea of Thieves, because they give your position away – and you can be seen for miles, especially at night.

If you insist on have something fiery with you though, maybe this parrot will be enough.

The Campfire Cockatoo stands out against most of the other birds with its vibrant fire red feathers, and it looks perfect with the Cockatoo Admiral Outfit.

If you’re on an island at night telling stories to your crew around the campfire, well we all know they’ll all pass out drunk. But your Campfire Cockatoo will stay awake, and will probably make quite the fuss if another crew starts shooting at you.

5. Ashen Curse Macaw

Cost: 649 Ancient Coins
Shop Location: Pirate Emporium

Some of the most stunning cosmetics in Sea of Thieves glow.

And they look incredible at night.

If you’re a fan of glowing effects then you’ll be pleased to know there’s a parrot that glows too – as long as you can put up with their… condition.

The Ashen Curse Macaw is covered in black feathers, but sports an awesome fiery hairdo. It glows so bright that you’ll never lose your feathered friend no matter where they go.

Sadly, the curse that makes them glow has also left their ribcage and glowing heart exposed.

Honestly, it looks painful… but they don’t seem to mind!

4. Skeleton Cockatoo

Cost: 649 Ancient Coins
Shop Location: Pirate Emporium

I wouldn’t usually put a pet on a list that you can’t get anymore (as of this writing), but this one has been brought back once before in the past – and they may just do it again!

The Skeleton Cockatoo is a spooky bird made of nothing but bones.

I can’t really say much about the feathers because, well, it doesn’t have any!

Regardless, this is the perfect pet to go along with the many ghost-themed ship cosmetics – and if you’re planning a Halloween-themed pirate, no pet will beat this one.

3. Hunter’s Call Forager Parrot

Cost: 649 Ancient Coins
Shop Location: Pirate Emporium

Umm, Sea of Thieves developers, are you sure this is a parrot?

The Hunter’s Call Forager Parrot looks more like a bird of prey than a cute parrot.

And don’t think I didn’t notice the metal claws on one foot!

Needless to say, this bird looks like it means business – and it can probably handle itself better than any other pet in the entire game.

The other parrots would bring you fruit if they could.

This one would bring you chickens.

2. Palm Grove Parakeet

Palm Grove Parakeet from Sea of Thieves

Cost: 499 Ancient Coins
Shop Location: Pirate Emporium

This ranking is very much an opinion piece, but this skin is so high because I just got one of these parakeets – and I dressed it like a banana.

The Palm Grove Parakeet is one of the most brightly-colored birds in the game.

And yes, I wasn’t joking – you really can get your Parakeet a banana skin hat.

But hat or not, if you’re not sailing across the Shores of Plenty, the seas can be a little depressing and grey.

If you’re traveling alone, this little one is guaranteed to brighten up your day no matter where you are.

1. Royal Pink Cockatoo

Cost: 499 Ancient Coins
Shop Location: Pirate Emporium

Here’s another bird I’m biased towards – because well, I have one that’s almost the same in real life!

And it’s just as adorable in-game.

The Royal Pink Cockatoo bears a striking resemblance to a Galah Cockatoo. But the one in the game won’t try and tear your fingers to shreds if it’s having a bad day…

The real bird can be mean and grumpy IRL – but rest assured your Sea of Thieves Cockatoo is as cute and cheerful as can be in a world full of bloodthirsty pirates and skeletons.
