Amongst all the houses, it’s pretty obvious that Gryffindor stands out as the most well-known and well-regarded.

It is, after all, the house that the main character himself chose to be sorted to.

It’s also the house with the most recurring characters in both the books and the movies.

Just as Slytherin is often stereotyped as the worst house, Gryffindor is regarded among Harry Potter fans as the best house for very obvious reasons.

Godric Gryffindor — the founder of the said house — values Chivalry, Courage, and Determination above any other traits.

And those traits are exactly what you’ll find in a handful of anime characters, which would make them a perfect fit for Gryffindor.

10. Ichigo Kurosaki

Ichigo Kurosaki from Bleach anime

Anime: Bleach

Kicking this list off, we can start with Ichigo Kurosaki who’s one of the most well-known Shounen MCs in anime history.

Coincidentally, most Shounen MCs are pretty much the same in the sense that they’re all chivalrous, stubborn, and brave.

Ichigo is one of such main characters that you’ll see plenty of times in this list.

Despite his humble beginnings as a human, he’s been consistently shown to not back down no matter who or what the enemy is.

Especially if his friends or the fate of the world are involved.

To him, the odds don’t matter.

As long as he draws breath, he will always swing his sword to protect those that he cares about.

9. Kirigaya Kazuto (Kirito)

Kirigaya Kazuto (Kirito) in Sword Art Online

Anime: Sword Art Online

Kirito is yet another swordsman who’s notable enough to be (hypothetically) sorted in Gryffindor.

After all, his will to keep moving and fight his way through any challenge has always been there ever since the start of his series.

Not only is he strong physically, but he’s also one of the few players who have enough mental fortitude and bravery to lead the frontlines during raids.

The threat of imminent death isn’t enough to dissuade — least of all bring down this Black Swordsman.

During the latter part of the first season, he fought not only for himself, but also for his companions – and for every single player that was trapped in the death game.

8. Erza Scarlet

Anime: Fairy Tail

It’s pretty easy to see just why this awesome red-haired armored waifu is a fan-favorite among the myriad of other notable characters in Fairy Tail.

In addition to being the most determined and upstanding of the bunch, Erza Scarlet is also one of the most powerful wizards in Fairy Tail.

During fights, she’s been known to be as stubborn as an unmoving mountain and has rarely ever gone down without taking her enemy with her.

She’s strong, skilled, and highly adaptable to anything that happens during battle or life in general.

These traits more or less explain just why she’s also one of the most respected guild members.

7. Guts

Guts from Berserk anime

Anime: Berserk

There’s a reason for the countless “fan vs enjoyer” memes that involve this particular character.

Many fans (including yours truly) think Guts is the better “Black Swordsman” between him and Kirito for more than a few reasons.

Seriously, it’s not even close.

His bravery and guts (heh) alone are just on a whole other level compared to other anime characters.

It’s almost as if this man isn’t capable of feeling even an ounce of fear at all!

If you follow either the manga or the anime, it’s plainly obvious that Guts is the literal embodiment of the word “Indomitable Will”.

He’s the kind of man that even demons fear, and rightfully so.

6. All Might

All Might in My Hero Academia

Anime: My Hero Academia

All Might is the textbook definition of a “true hero”.

His status as a legend within his series is very well-deserved, and is a product of his glowingly positive traits as a person.

He was the “Symbol of Peace” and the “Number 1 Hero” for a long time, which tells us just how busy All Might have been during his years as a pro hero.

Considering all these, I think he’d be a very notable addition to Gryffindor – whether he has One For All or not.

Not only is he strong, willful, and courageous, but he’s also very charismatic and extremely outgoing.

Simply put, he’s the kind of person anyone loves to be around.

This makes him the perfect choice for Gryffindor, along with his infallible sense of chivalry and justice.

5. Suzaku Kururugi

Suzaku Kururugi from Code Geass anime

Anime: Code Geass

Suzaku has served as both Lelouch’s closest friend & worst enemy throughout their series.

He’s chivalrous, dutiful, and brave in every sense of the word.

He’s also extremely loyal and stubborn whenever he makes his mind up about something.

Although I would argue that he might’ve been too loyal at one point in the series. And to the wrong side, no less…

Despite his admittedly “good” character traits, Suzaku is also a tad ignorant and naive.

So much so he had garnered a significant amount of hate from the fans of the show.

In the end, Suzaku is an example that even a character with “good” traits can oftentimes be misled.

This doesn’t change the fact that he’d still be a good fit for Gryffindor.

4. Son Goku

Anime: Dragon Ball

I know Goku might be a bit of an airhead sometimes (most of the time).

But his heart is in the right place.

Say what you will about this overpowered Saiyan God, but no one can deny his courage and determination on the battlefield.

Aliens? Gods? Androids? Oversized Cockroaches?

Pink Mr. Stay-Puft-looking villains?

No problem for Goku!

He’s about as strong as he is valiant and pure-of-heart.

When he sets his mind to it, no amount of suffering would hold him back from defeating any antagonist that he must face.

And to think we have a certain rock at the side of a cliff to thank for all this. Who knows what Goku would’ve turned out like if he hadn’t hit his head as a kid?

3. Naruto Uzumaki

Naruto Uzumaki from Naruto anime

Anime: Naruto

When it comes to sheer stubbornness, I do not doubt that anyone would find it hard to make a case against Naruto Uzumaki.

After all, he’s exactly the kind of guy who would rather get himself beat up to near-death, rather than let his friend join the dark side.

Oftentimes, Naruto finds himself stuck between a rock and a hard place because of his stubbornness.

Although he always finds a way to get – mostly because of his can-do attitude and his eagerness to face any foe, if it means protecting his loved ones and his village.

And to top it all off, he has also achieved the very same thing he’s been saying that he would ever since he was a child…

He became the Hokage. And a pretty damn great one at that!

This just goes to show that being hard-headed pays off after all.

2. Monkey D. Luffy

Monkey D. Luffy in One Piece anime

Anime: One Piece

Like Goku, it’s pretty much well-known that Luffy ain’t exactly the sharpest tool in the shed.

Even though he’s lookin’ kinda dumb every once in a while, Luffy is anything but a coward or a weak-willed brat.

If anything, I think he’s one of the most determined anime characters ever – and is also the most fearless pirate captain in his series.

I mean, who else but Strawhat Luffy has the balls to confront not just one, but two Emperors at the same time?

When it comes to the best interest and safety of his Nakama, Luffy would fight anybody — especially if it would get him ever closer to being the Pirate King.

And of course, as long as he gets to beat up nasty villains and isn’t trampling on any innocent people along the way.

That’s just how he rolls – and why he’s so well-liked by us fans.

1. Saber

Saber from Fate Stay Night anime

Anime: Fate Series

There are very few anime characters who would fit as perfectly in Gryffindor as Saber — the “King of Knights”, and someone who exhibits most of Gryffindor’s traits (if not all of them).

There’s no doubt in my mind that Saber would be a great addition to Gryffindor, mainly because of her character’s overall psyche and design.

Godric Gryffindor, after all, was based on a medieval knight himself — complete with armor, a sword, and a code of chivalry where his house’s traits were derived from.

And there’s nobody else more worthy of joining than someone who embodies that “knight” character archetype brilliantly.

Through and through, Saber is courageous, determined, and way more chivalrous than she should be – considering all the trials and tribulations she’s been in.
