Picking a food for the famed jack-of-all-trades can be quite difficult.

Red mages are capable of fulfilling many roles, and are expected to be one of the most prepared jobs when entering the fray in FFXI.

So with this in mind, which foods should a red mage eat?

5. Sublime Sushi

This is a very popular option in situations where a red mage will be physically attacking.

Sublime Sushi offers a mix of attack as well as physical accuracy.

It’ll mainly be used by players expecting to be on the frontlines for extended periods of time, and for players that are confident in their ability to land debuffing magic, whether it’s because of low enemy magic evasion, good gear, or party setup.

Sublime Sushi can be found under the Foods > Meals > Seafood section of the auction house.

Duration: 30 Minutes
Effects:
HP +40
MP +20
STR+6
DEX+7
MND-3
CHR+6
Accuracy +10% (Max. 100)
Ranged Accuracy +10% (Max. 100)
Resist Sleep +1

4. Cehuetzi Snow Cone

I’d argue this is the best food a red mage could have if you’re considering magical damage, mostly thanks to its huge magical attack bonus increase.

Red mages who frequently use elemental weapon skills will also benefit from these snow cones.

Additionally, it grants a considerable boost to intelligence and mind, making debuffs a little easier to land.

Cehuetzi Snow Cones can be found under the Foods > Meals > Sweets section of the auction house.

Duration: 30 Minutes
Effects:
MP +20% (Max. 100)
INT +5
MND +5
Magic Attack Bonus +13
Lizard Killer +5

3. Carbonara

When physical accuracy isn’t a concern, this is one of the best foods a red mage could eat.

Especially if the goal is to dish out physical damage.

The carbonara offers large amounts of attack, strength, and store TP, enabling any RDM to weapon skill with more frequency and power.

This also offers multitudes of HP, so your RDM can shrug off hard-hitting attacks – even when up close.

Carbonaras can be found under the Foods > Meals > Breads & Rice section of the auction house.

They can also be purchased at Curio Vendor Moogles for 4,000 gil each.

Duration: 30 Minutes
Effects:
HP +14% (Max. 175)
MP +10
INT -3
STR +4
VIT +2
Attack +17% (Max. 65)
Store TP +6

2. Miso Ramen

Now here’s an excellent defensive option for fights with high amounts of danger.

The Miso Ramen bolsters a red mage’s already-flexible endurance, and gives them the ability to evade all sorts of detrimental magic and effects.

I’d say this is particularly useful when attempting to solo difficult content.

Miso Ramen can be found under the Foods > Meals > Breads & Rice section of the auction house.

Duration: 30 Minutes
Effect:
HP +100
STR +5
VIT +5
DEF +10% (Max. 170)
Magic Evasion +10% (Max. 50)
Magic Defense Bonus +5
Resist Slow +10

1. Marine Stewpot

So this is it – the best of the best for a red mage.

This was also our pick for the best food for black mages in FFXI, and for similar reasons.

This dish offers an excellent option for a majority of a red mage’s roles in the current era of the game.

While it’s true that this dish may be a little hard to acquire, it works as an AoE, and includes pets. So there’s a higher chance of receiving its effects in a party compared to other foods in this list.

The Marine Stewpot also helps with all the fronts of a red mage by making them incredibly accurate, be it with enfeebles, en-spells, or physical weapon skills.

Plus it also grants them a sizable HP boost.

Marine Stewpots can be found under the Foods > Meals > Seafood section of the auction house.

Duration: 3 Hours
Effect:
(AoE)
HP +90 (Pets excluded)
(Players) Accuracy, Ranged Accuracy and Magic Accuracy +90
(Pets) Accuracy, Ranged Accuracy and Magic Accuracy +75
