The first thing most people think of when I say “mod” is bringing an unusual out-of-place object into a game.

Whether that’s Thomas the Tank Engine in Need For Speed or hot anime girls in TESV: Skyrim, alternate player skins are a staple of fan-made add-ons.

And GTA V modders have been pumping out high-quality player skins for over a decade – and I don’t think they’ll stop anytime soon.

Below is our ranking of some fantastic player skins that’ll transform your next GTA session into a completely new experience.

20. Goku (DBZ)

Goku (DBZ) / GTA V Mod

Check Out This Mod

We’ll start the list with the gold standard for out-of-universe player skins: DBZ’s Goku.

From Skyrim to Minecraft and now GTA V’s Los Santos, Goku has been in every gaming world you can imagine.

This add-on introduces several versions of Goku in a style that mimics the DBZ anime beautifully. These versions include:

  • Regular Goku
  • Super Saiyan
  • Super Saiyan 1, 2, and 3
  • Super Saiyan God
  • And Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan

Wow, that was a mouthful.

It’s a complete package that’ll help you unleash a reign of Saiyan terror on Los Santos – or fight for justice and protect the innocent as Goku would.

19. United Nations Soldier

United Nations Soldier / GTA V Mod

The UN Blue Helmets are the United Nation’s force of over 80,000 soldiers from around the world tasked with peacekeeping operations worldwide.

Regrettably, getting a unanimous agreement on what conflicts warrant “peacekeeping” is almost impossible in the real world.

Still, the wanton destruction and absolute insanity that is daily life in Los Santos would warrant deploying at least a single operative – and the Security Council has chosen you for the job.

This mod lets you don a UN peacekeeper’s blue vest and helmet to bring order to these lawless lands in the name of the international community.

18. Venom Snake (MGSV)

Venom Snake (MGSV) / GTA V Mod

If rather than serving an international organization, you’d rather be a more, say, private soldier, you can’t go wrong with this Venom Snake skin ported from Metal Gear Solid V.

Venom Snake – known by his followers as Big Boss – is the leader of a private military company known as the Diamond Dogs, operating off of a refurbished oil rig off the coast of Seychelles.

Their latest military contract has brought Snake to Los Santos, infiltrating the city in full military garb.

For the complete Metal Gear Solid V package, check out the Quiet skin as well.

17. Deadpool

Deadpool / GTA V Mod

Check Out This Mod

I’ve taken a look at countless superhero player skin mods during my time covering GTA V, but no masked crusader is more appropriate for the crazy city of Los Santos as Marvel’s Deadpool.

Irreverent, sanguinary, and more than a little insane, Deadpool is the hero Los Santos deserves.

This mod ports the Deadpool model from popular third-person shooter Fortnite to GTA V so you can run around popping caps and breaking the fourth barrier to your heart’s content.

16. Boba Fett (Star Wars)

Boba Fett (Star Wars) / GTA V Mod

Check Out This Mod

We can’t rank crossover player skin mods without including Star Wars – and for a place like Los Santos, there’s no better SW character than famous bounty hunter Boba Fett.

This clone-turned-crime-lord dominated the bounty hunting business from the fall of the Galactic Republic to the end of the Galactic Empire.

After faking his death in a Sarlacc pit, he made his way to Los Santos to rebuild his fortune and have some fun at the local nightclubs.

Those looking for powers some would consider unnatural should try out the Kylo Ren & Darth Vader player skins as well.

15. Honoka (Dead or Alive)

Honoka (Dead or Alive) / GTA V Mod

Check Out This Mod

If there’s one thing modders love to add to their games, it’s hot women in sexy outfits.

GTA V is far from being the exception – as shown by this delectable rendition of Dead or Alive’s Honoka.

This mod will let you play as or turn another character into Honoka, clad in a form-fitting one-piece bikini that accentuates her curves and helps her fit right in with Los Santos’ beach crowd.

You can’t ask for a hotter player skin. If you want to try and find one, author Sergio Van Dyk has a whole collection of DOA ports.

14. Leon S. Kennedy (RE4)

Leon S. Kennedy (RE4) / GTA V Mod

Check Out This Mod

Few characters are as universally acclaimed as Leon Scott Kennedy from the Resident Evil series.

Introduced as a rookie cop in Resident Evil 2, Leon has always been a popular character – but he really blew up with the release of arguably the best game in the series: Resident Evil 4.

This mod will let you take on Leon’s appearance from his sinister adventure in the Spanish countryside, complete with full facial animation.

Leon was able to bring down an entire cult of parasite-infected maniacs with just a handgun while protecting the single most useless character in the series – so I’m sure he’ll do fine in Los Santos.

For the complete RE4 experience, check out the Luis Sera and Dr. Salvador skins by author LegendKiller176.

13. Niko Bellic (GTA4)

Niko Bellic (GTA4) / GTA V Mod

Check Out This Mod

Those who’ve been following the Grand Theft Auto franchise from before 2012 will love this Niko Bellic player skin.

Niko is one of the most fondly remembered characters in GTA history. This Yugoslavian veteran came to Liberty City to “find a new life”; by that, I mean find and execute someone who betrayed him during the Bosnian war.

Badass, to say the least.

Hopefully, his arrival to Los Santos does offer Niko a chance at a new start – though, if I had to guess, he’ll probably find his skills useful in the city’s bustling criminal industry.

For the full Niko Bellic experience, try out the Niko Bellic Voice Mod along with this player skin.

12. Norman Reedus

Norman Reedus / GTA V Mod

Check Out This Mod

Norman Reedus used to be a TV and film star – but he’s been in so many video games by now that he might be considered a video game character.

Whether you know him from his role as Daryl Dixon in The Walking Dead or his stunning appearance as Sam Porter in Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding, you’ll love having him make a cameo in GTA V as well.

This mod is based on Reedus’ highly detailed appearance in the famous Silent Hills: PT demo. It’s fully animated, features blood damage, and remains just as bad-ass as he was in his previous roles.

11. Ryu (Street Fighter)

Ryu (Street Fighter) / GTA V Mod

Check Out This Mod

Who doesn’t love Street Fighter?

Even if you’re not that good at button-mashing fighter games, you have to give the franchise credit for helping video games become what they are today.

You can show your love for this storied video game series with this gorgeous player skin based on Ryu’s bearded look in Street Fighter VI. Some people think the beard is a little bit extra, but I can’t get enough of it as a bearded man myself!

If you’d rather play as a deadly female fighter rather than this bearded bad-ass, or if you want a Street Fighter companion to accompany Ryu, check out this Cammy player skin.

10. Jinx (Arcane)

Jinx (Arcane) / GTA V Mod

Check Out This Mod

If you had to bring a character from League of Legends to brave the rough and tough streets of Los Santos, you couldn’t do better than Jinx.

This absolute psycho is good with guns and even better with explosives – two of the favorite tools of the local crime entrepreneurs. In addition, she completely disregards human life and has the broken moral compass you need to make it as a lowlife in this town.

Most importantly, she has confidence and the ability to project power.

This girl would have the local crime families eating from her hand in no time!

9. DIO (Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure)

DIO (Jojo's Bizarre Adventure) / GTA V Mod

Check Out This Mod

Another total badass that would find it easy to rise to the top in Los Santos is DIO from Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure.

DIO is the ultimate villain. He’s ripped, super-strong, immortal – and, most importantly, he has the uncanny ability to make people fall for his vision. An almost supernatural charisma makes it easy for him to turn wretches into valuable allies.

As you can tell, he also has a pristine fashion sense.

If you want to further Jojo-fy your game, get DIO’s Stand – The World – or his long-time rival Joseph Joestar.

Alternatively, you can play as Kira – the villain from Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure Part 4.

8. 2B & A2 (NieR: Automata)

2B & A2 (NieR: Automata) / GTA V Mod

Check Out This Mod

When it comes to hot video game characters, few can hold a candle to YoRHa No.2 Type B.

This battle android from challenging hack-and-slash NieR: Automata rose to popularity thanks to her delectable design and bad-ass combat style. Her strength in combat is unparalleled – and so is the allure of her immense beauty.

Along with 2B, this mod lets you play as A2 – a prototype android whose data was later used to program 2B. Though her design is rougher around the edges, she’s also a cute bad-ass.

2B has made cameos in many games, including Soul Calibur VI and Gravity Rush 2. Now, she can come to cleanse the city of Los Santos.

7. Carl Johnson (GTA: SA)

Carl Johnson (GTA: SA) / GTA V Mod

“Ah shit, here we go again.”

Is there any character in the GTA franchise that’s even half as iconic as CJ from San Andreas? I don’t think so.

CJ is an example of someone who’s just too much of a bad-ass to stay on the sidelines.

He might not love the crime life, but he’s a fantastic gangster. In fact, he’s just a great leader. His honesty and integrity could have led him down a different path under more fortunate circumstances.

This mod lets you play as CJ just as he is in San Andreas. No fancy graphics here – just pure, unadulterated nostalgia.

6. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson / GTA V Mod

Check Out This Mod

Whether it’s entertaining the masses or brewing excellent Teremana tequila, The Rock is always cooking up something incredible.

From WWE champion to Hollywood movie star, Dwayne Johnson seems to excel at everything he does.

Unfortunately for the LSPD, he’ll be taking a shot at organized crime in Los Santos, thanks to this mod.

The Rock believes in always being the hardest worker in the room. Considering how intense the criminal underworld of Los Santos can get, the city might not survive his drive to dominate.

This mod lets you play as a shirt-less Dwayne Johnson, showing off his traditional Samoan-style tattoo. It includes options for a younger and older DJ, as well as jeans vs. WWE tighties.

5. Master Chief (Halo)

Master Chief (Halo) / GTA V Mod

Check Out This Mod

No player skin mod list will ever be complete without everyone’s favorite genetically-enhanced space marine: Master Chief.

John-117 is a second-generation Spartan, capable of single-handedly stopping evil alien empires and ravenous hive-minds if given enough time. If the LSPD manages to get him in their ranks, it’s over for Los Santos’ criminals.

Luckily, you get to pick what Master Chief came here to do. You can bring wrongdoers to justice in mods like LSPD: First Response or indulge in your urban power fantasy of being at least 20cm taller than everyone else.

4. 2Pac

2Pac / GTA V Mod

Check Out This Mod

Rumors about rapper Tupac Shakur faking his death and living under a secret identity somewhere in Malaysia, Cuba, or the US have been floating around since his assassination in 1996.

Regrettably for his fans, nobody has ever been able to track this legendary musician down… until now.

Thanks to this custom player skin, fans can finally reconnect with 2Pac in Los Santos – probably the perfect place for this cultural icon to make a comeback.

If you like this skin, check out this Bel Air Music Producer Home for a house fit for a best-selling music artist of Makaveli’s caliber.

3. Custom Cyberpunk Female

Custom Cyberpunk Female / GTA V Mod

Check Out This Mod

I still haven’t forgotten the disappointment that was CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk 2077.

The aesthetics were on point, but the gameplay and performance? Not so much!

A fantastic alternative for open-world fans looking for a cyberpunk experience is to inject GTA V with genre staples like body mods, a bizarre fashion sense based on the 80s, and a bunch of high-tech gadgets.

This custom female player skin set is based on Cyberpunk 2077’s aesthetic, though it doesn’t port anything directly from the game.

It features three outfits, three hairstyles, and a wealth of cyberpunk accessories like a gas mask and a high-tech visor.

2. Adorable Anime Maid

Adorable Anime Maid / GTA V Mod

Check Out This Mod

This ranking would never be complete without at least one cute anime maid.

We’ve all seen videos of unrealistically adorable anime girls wreaking havoc around San Andreas and Los Santos with rocket launchers, assault rifles, and miniguns.

There’s something about the contrast between their innocent and pure appeal and the photorealistic destruction that tickles everyone’s funny bone.

This specific anime maid was ported from Nexon’s Darkness Rises if you want to check that out.

1. Tommy Vercetti (GTA: VC)

Tommy Vercetti (GTA: VC) / GTA V Mod

Check Out This Mod

For the final spot on the list, I chose to get a little personal.

GTA: Vice City was my first contact with the franchise.

I remember going to the local Internet cafe, paying the owner a fee for a cheat sheet of cheat codes, and playing as this wacky Hawaiian shirt-wearing outlaw with access to tanks, flying sports cars, and all sorts of weapons.

NUTTERTOOLS, baby!

This mod lets me relive the good old days with a fully-animated HD skin based on Tommy Vercetti, the legendary main character of GTA: Vice City.

It may not be the 80s anymore, but he still rocks that Hawaiian shirt like a boss.
