Deepshadow gear items are level 80 sets of equipment that are purchased with Sacks of Nuts. While the augmented versions of these sets are now available by default, there was a time when only the normal quality version was available for purchase with Sacks of Nuts.

If you still have any pieces of normal quality Deepshadow equipment, you can upgrade it to its “Augmented” variation for 100 Allagan Tomestones of Poetics. Augmented Deepshadow gear is dyeable and has an item level of 470.

How To Earn Sacks of Nuts

You can obtain Sacks of Nuts by participating in The Hunt. This is a system that has been part of FFXIV since A Realm Reborn where you set out to hunt specific marks.

Successfully hunting marks in zones from A Realm Reborn, Heavensward, and Stormblood will reward you with a currency called Allied Seals. Sacks of Nuts is a newer hunt currency that was introduced in the Shadowbringers expansion and is still in use for Endwalker.

You can unlock the hunts for Shadowbringers with the level 70 quest “Nuts to You” which is given by the Hume Lout in the Crystarium (X:12.1, Y:15.0).

An entire set of Deepshadow gear including weapons and accessories will cost you 810 Sacks of Nuts. Here’s a breakdown of how much each individual piece costs:

Gear Slot Sack of Nuts Cost
Weapon 140
Head 70
Body 120
Hands 70
Legs 120
Feet 70
Ear 55
Neck 55
Wrist 55
Ring 55

Note: The cost of the Paladin weapon is split between the sword and shield, with the sword requiring 100 Sacks of Nuts while the shield will cost 40 Sacks of Nuts.

Once you have enough Sacks of Nuts for the piece of equipment you want, you can purchase it from either Ilfroy at (X:11.0, Y:10.8) of Eulmore’s Understory area, or Xylle at the Crystarium (X:9.4, Y:9.5).

Augmenting Your Deepshadow Equipment

If you still have any Deepshadow equipment and would like to augment it, take the gear to Shee-Tatch in Eulmore (X:10.2, Y:11.8). When you speak to this NPC, select the gear you would like to augment and pay him 100 Allagan Tomestones of Poetics per piece of equipment.

100 Poetics isn’t really that much and you can easily obtain that amount by completing certain dungeons, playing the Mini Cactpot at the Gold Saucer, or doing your daily Duty Roulettes.

The Main Scenario Roulette in particular has a daily reward of 300 Poetics.

After the augmentation process, your regular Deepshadow gear will be replaced with the item level 470 version of it.

Is Deepshadow Gear Worth Getting?

Not really, especially if you’re looking to tackle post-80 content like EX-trials or the Endwalker Main Scenario. Even with the augmented version readily available, you’re better off spending your poetics on Cryptlurker equipment.

The only real upside to owning Deepshadow equipment is that it looks really cool, so you could use it as glams.
