Sometimes you want to follow along on adventures of the typical person: a kid from the sticks, a high school girl with daddy issues, or even a dysfunctional couple who happen to possess giant mechs.

But other times you might want to follow the stories of nobility.

And since kings are usually sleazy old dudes, let’s turn our attention to our queens as we count down some of the best in all of anime.

14. Maou

Maou from Maoyu ~ Archenemy & Hero anime

Anime: Maoyu ~ Archenemy & Hero

We’re going to start off with some serious 007 double agent business with Maou.

She’s the Demon Queen, but despite her terrifying name, she wants to make peace with the humans. In order to achieve that, she disguises herself as a human. A really beautiful human might I add.

And she joins forces with the hero of the people.

As a person, our Demon Queen is pretty laid back and doesn’t have the usual stick up the behind that’s so commonly inserted in noble characters, which of course is a major plus.

13. Shiro

Anime: No Game No Life

I mean, just look at her! Who wouldn’t want to be under such a moe queen?

Plus she isn’t just adorable, she’s also a super genius that might just lead humanity into a winning battle against the rest of the world.

I guess Sora is also part of that equation, but he isn’t important right now! Although Shiro usually operates best with Sora on hand, she has shown to be capable to make decisions and defeat enemies on her own as well.

She has charm, strategy, a super-brain that learns an entire language in like an afternoon, and her stats are honesty just overpowered.

12. The Witch Queen

The Witch Queen from Black Clover anime

Anime: Black Clover

The Witch Queen might not be winning any waifu awards. But she is definitely winning some serious battles.

This is because unlike the last two, the Witch Queen doesn’t like to lose precious time and play around.

So if she does look like she’s having some fun or has had a change of heart, you better know that she just found a way to use you to her benefit.

And at the end of the day, you don’t always have to love your queen’s personality. Sometimes you just have to respect what they’re willing to do to keep you all safe.

11. Ruri

Ruri in Dr. Stone anime

Anime: Dr. Stone

Ruri is the polar opposite of our last pick, as she can’t do too much on her own… but man does everyone just want to protect her.

It’s the power of moe, it transcends any form of logic and makes it so that everyone will listen to Ruri, as she is like an angel sent from heaven.

One of the largest arcs in the show was just creating medicine for Ruri and then subsequently fighting over who would have the honor to take her hand in marriage.

So maybe not a skilled diplomat, but definitely a convincing leader.

10. Ragyō Kiryūin

Ragyō Kiryūin from Kill la Kill

Anime: Kill la Kill

Okay, she might not wear the title. But in the context of the show she literally is the queen, with her princess Satsuki taking care of the foot soldiers while she launches attacks behind the scene.

Like with the Witch Queen, Ragyo probably isn’t getting a lot of sympathy points, as she’s rather evil.

But you do have to appreciate her cunning and her ambition, as I’m pretty sure she nearly went down the “conquer the world” path in life.

And if nothing else, she looks fabulous.

9. Touka Kirishima

Touka Kirishima in Tokyo Ghoul anime

Anime: Tokyo Ghoul

Talk about a rags to riches story, am I right?

Starting from only serving coffee to being married to the King of the Ghouls.

Unfortunately, we don’t get to see much in regards to what she actually does as queen.

But I think it’s a safe bet to say that the part suits her.

I mean, she is powerful. And won’t chicken out from fighting just about anyone. And is probably the only person that can talk back to Kaneki when he starts cracking his fingers.

8. Elizabeth

Elizabeth from Horizon in the Middle of Nowhere II

Anime: Horizon in the Middle of Nowhere II

She’s named Elizabeth, is the queen of England, and is also a half-fairy? I’m not saying this is proof of anything, but being a half-fairy would definitely explain how a certain someone has been alive for five centuries.

Back to the anime Elizabeth, she’s oddly very likable and ditsy.

I mean, she does like to flex her absolutely massive power on the haters. But besides that she usually acts like a down-to-earth person who just messes around.

Is that a characteristic a queen should have? I don’t know. But she kind of makes it work.

7. Rimuru Tempest

Rimuru Tempest in That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime

Anime: That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime

Since Rimuru is agender, they’re technically both a king and a queen. But they usually use a female form and that’s good enough for me.

Rimuru honestly feels like the perfect leader. They’re so down to earth that even the common foot soldier feels appreciated by them.

They try to make time for everyone and never give out any orders that would result in the kingdom’s suffering.

In fact, Rimuru usually handles everything on their own, as they’re a strong independent ruler who doesn’t even need their army.

6. Nia Teppelin

Nia Teppelin from Gurren Lagann anime

Anime: Gurren Lagann

Spoiler alert: Nia was a queen for like 10 seconds, but I am still counting it.

Nia just makes me sad. As not only does she have a pretty rough beginning, being thrown out by her father and all, but she never even gets to enjoy her happy ever after.

Just when she finally locked down that hunky drill boy Simon, she simply vanishes into thin air.

And it really is a shame. She has shown to be capable of rallying her troops, and would have made for an excellent leader without a doubt.

But Gainax never wants us to be happy, so what can you do.

5. Mirellia Q Melromarc

Mirellia Q Melromarc in The Rising of the Shield Hero

Anime: The Rising of the Shield Hero

I still can’t believe that this wonderful woman and queen gave birth to that Satan spawn known as Malty.

In the entire Rising of the Shield Hero universe, Mirellia is the only person of noble blood that seems to be trying to keep the world at peace and protect her people.

Not to mention helping the Shield Hero, you know the only guy who is actually looking out for the general good of the populace.

She also gave birth to Melty, who although has a similar name to that soulless demon is her polar opposite. So it’s definitely not the queen’s problem that one of the children turned out like that.

4. Gyokuen Ren

Gyokuen Ren from Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic anime

Anime: Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic

This one is a bit all over the place.

Gyokuen was originally a very caring mother and the wife of two emperors.

And you need to have some serious game to score not one, but two monarchs.

But then she gets possessed and is now a lone empress who doesn’t flinch at the sight of massacre, and is completely okay with lying to the public so that she gets some sympathy points.

Say what you will about her morals, but she made for an excellent antagonist. And the Empire did see a lot of development under her cruel rule, so I can’t help but include her.

3. Priscilla Barielle

Priscilla Barielle in Re: Zero anime

Anime: Re: Zero

I wanted to include at least one of the Queen candidates from Re:Zero.

And since Priscila is the closest to the position, as she’s a matriarch of her family already, I landed on her.

Prinscilla carries all the qualities you would usually associate with nobility, the bad ones at least.

She believes that the world revolves around her and sees other people as no more precious than bugs. However, she is far from dumb. And although her motivations tend to be rather problematic, her execution seems to be spot on.

So who knows: after a few years and some humbleness classes she might just become the best queen ever.

2. Krul Tepes

Krul Tepes from Seraph of the End anime

Anime: Seraph of the End

You know, I had to give it up for my vampire queen.

Considering that her name basically sounds like the world “cruel” and that she’s a vampire queen, you would expect her to be extremely vicious, right?

Well you would be spot on, as this little queen has no issues with ripping limb from limb when someone agitates her even a little bit.

She goes by the old way of ruling through fear. And it honestly seems to be extremely effective.

1. Elizabeth Liones

Elizabeth Liones in The Seven Deadly Sins anime

Anime: The Seven Deadly Sins

It can’t be a coincidence that this is the second Queen Elizabeth on this list.

At first, Elizabeth just seemed like some ditsy chick that went out and about in the search for powerful warriors.

But as the story progresses she becomes so much more than that.

Spoiler alert here: she’s a Goddess and has been cursed to reincarnate indefinitely so that she and Meliodas can be punished for all eternity.

And even then she remained a likable character that always tried to help everyone out. And her ship with Meliodas is strong enough to conquer any sea!
