The best way to farm crystal in Fallout 4 is to head to Jamaica Plain’s townhall basement and disarm all the 49 laser tripwires for a total of 49 crystal.

Method 1: Jamaica Plain Townhall Basement
The corridor with laser tripwires in Jamaican Plain Townhall basement.
The townhall is a destroyed orange building with a statue in front of it. After entering it, head to your left and you will find the door to the basement.
To pick the Advanced lock on the door to the basement you will need level 1 of the Locksmith perk.
After entering the basement, open the door to your left, and turn right. You should now be standing right in front of the laser tripwires.
After disarming the tripwires, you can click twice on the red button at the end of the corridor to reactivate them. Once reactivated, they are ready to be disarmed again.
Note: This methodology might be considered an exploit by some players, and that’s why I’m providing some other options in this guide.
Method 2: Farming Microscopes
Microscopes in Medford Memorial Hospital.

If you grab all the microscopes from these locations, you will be able to scrap them into 58 crystal.
Note: To access Greentech Genetics, you need to follow the main quest until “Hunter/Hunted”.
